I'm so with you there. It's one of the main reasons I'm happy that I purchased the previous year's model F-150. I know...I know...someone will say it's the "chip shortage". I don't believe the chip shortage has anything to do with missing light bulbs. They don't appear to be missing on anything else.

I don’t necessarily disagree. As it’s been mentioned, the look could be improved. I just like the feature enough to overlook the aesthetics of it.
First World issues! The truck must be pretty good if collective "you" are bitching about the looks of a keyless entry keypad. I don't even see it unless I am looking to unlock the truck.

This one is somewhat a long shot, but the pad also becomes useful while at a destination such as a beach like mentioned above, or a camp site, etc.
A place where one has keys stored safely, like in a camper. A person can get in/out of the locked vehicle without having to retrieve the key. More importantly, the keys remain safe with less risk of becoming lost if in a hurry and not returning the key to the safe place.

I know, we've entered/exited a vehicle with a key for a thousand years and rarely or never lose a key. Because we are so forgetful these days, like leaving kids in the car (accidentally), we could rush and forget to return the key to the safe place if we get in a rush. Like a sudden rain event and your kid locked the door and you need something from the truck -you don't have to run back to the camper to retrieve a key just to get something from the vehicle.
That's just a scenario. The S/O may suddenly remember they left their wallet or purse in the vehicle and not having to say "honey, were are the keys for the truck, I left my <important thing> in the truck.

I'm surprised there are more "I can keep my fob in the cab" situations listed than "I don't want to get my fob".

Again, that's a long shot. I've never lost a key. I'd be okay with out but I do miss it in my car. I haven't had more than 1 or 2 situations where it would have been useful, but I've only had the car a month.

If mischievous people read the forum, they stand a good chance of stealing a Ford from a beach parking lot knowing most people in the internet claim to lock keys in the truck while at the beach.

Well, you could enter valet mode if you're like me and use this feature for that exact purpose.
It will at least annoy the thieves and you'll be able to track the truck's location and update the cops 😀

I got back from a Mexican cruise and the keypad was worth it. I hid my keys inside the truck and locked it using 7|8 and 9|10.

I have lost my keys overseas and really hate to bring it with me when I'm traveling. I travel very frequently and the keypad is worth it.

We have a "modern" set of buttons on our Explorer. You can't even see them until you use them, they are digital/LED/touch screen/whatever.

They suck. They take five times longer to use because you have to get it activated before you can press the buttons, and they often don't work with gloves or work well with this that or the other on your hands.

It kind of sounds you probably just shouldn't own a truck, it's not trendy and hipster enough for you.

You need something that people probably haven't heard of until you tell them about yours
The advantage of the hidden ones like Explorer, Escape, etc. is that they can’t come loose like the one on my Powerboost did today. Now I have to schedule a service warranty appointment to get it replaced. I tried to just push it back in but it came right out again. Apparently Ford is updating them to make them cheaper!

Another +1 for the keypad. I spend a lot of time in the outdoors hunting fishing, boating, hiking, etc. Having the key locked securely in the truck when wet wading is much better than hiding it somewhere outside the truck. I personally love the feature.

Absolutely not . I work on big ships . Lock my key in my truck and walk away and never worry about my keys being in route to China cause they fell out of my coveralls or something like that. My bronco unfortunately does not have the key pad and it’s an absolute pain in the *** having my keys on me .

Unfortunately, the OP might be on to something. I saw an article recently about Ford dropping the keypad from the Edge for 2023; could be the next F-150 respin will be without it, also. Assuming it costs Ford $5 to put the keypad into a truck and multiply that by almost a million trucks, that becomes the kind of cost savings that would earn an engineer an award in the tech industry where I used to work...
