I think it's a good feature, and that's why I'm willing to choose Ford

Keyless fob is always in my pocket. I see no use for the keypad, besides it being a security concern. Just another way for truck to get broken into more easily.

I never claimed that my opinion was the only one that mattered. I simply asked a question. Heck, if you look at the title of this thread, it's an actual question. In terms of me being "out of touch", because I'm a car junkie (and more particular a truck junkie)...I don't really follow that logic. I'm clearly in the minority when it comes to the keypad on these trucks. I'm not a fan of how it looks, and never have been...regardless of how great the functionality is. Clearly, the majority of people in this particular thread think it's the greatest thing that anyone has ever thought of. While I can't comment on what everyone else's taste is as it relates to features or the look on a specific truck, I think owning so many trucks from every manufacturer, over the years, certainly has given me some insight into what I like the look of, and/or the features I'd love to see in every truck. I'm not some wealthy guy who has 87 trucks in my garages. I'm someone who works hard, who has had a lifelong love of automobiles, and sports, so that love manifests itself through me switching up vehicles, fairly frequently.

As such a car/truck junkie I still dont see why you havent just removed it yourself, or paid someone to do so. The part you are after without a hole for the keypad exists as there are some super low trim level trucks delivered without the keypad. Heck, you could probably find someone with one of those trucks that would be willing to trade you parts straight up as they want to add this feature.

My post was really a commentary and more of a question as to whether or not Ford should still be even using such an old piece of technology in new vehicles, given that anyone with a smart phone can unlock their vehicle. As has been pointed out in this thread, not everyone has a smart phone. I have relatives in their 80's with an iPhone, so hadn't even considered that angle, but the point is taken. Oh, and yes, I'm fully aware that I could remove the keypad, but I'm not one for taking away factory features in any truck I own. I know that I could also install a far superior aftermarket head unit. I just try to keep everything as close to original as I can. As I have pointed out, as much as I don't love the look of the keypad, it hasn't stopped me from owning my share of F-150's, and didn't stop me from purchasing this latest one. I wish the interiors on GMC trucks were a bit nicer than they are (the newer models already feel dated), but I've purchased my share of those as well. Someday, the perfect truck will be built. I'll keep hoping.

I really do get what your OP was trying to say.
I love the keypad, as I have never before had the ability to just leave the keys inside in the truck or any other car I have owned. I can go to the beach or whatever and not have to worry about them falling out of my pocket or getting wet or anything.
I use the app pretty frequently but I still kind of prefer typing the numbers as I'm actually at the door. I dunno...weird.

But yes, I guess I see your point. It could be a little cooler-looking or have a bad-*** fingerprint reader that works instantly, like my Android, or maybe a face recognizer thing like my work iPhone, or something along those lines.
It's already proven technology in our everyday lives & phones, I guess the cost of putting it in a mass-produced truck would be the thing..

But completely removing the whole idea of instant unlocking without keys in-hand is a big-time bad idea in my book,

My android fingerprint reader doesn't work with gloves on, or a sweat covered finger, or when it's being rained on, or if I have grease from the work I just did on my thumb/finger, or...going to a biometric fingerprint reader would be a drastic regression in reliability vs what the trucks have now.

Really no need to spend more money on something more complex that's less reliable.

AND you wouldn't be able to simply share the code with trusted friends and family members, either.

I would vote hard against that regression.

(in my family, we all have the same codes on our vehicles, so we all know how to get into all of them even if it's the first time we've been physically near the vehicle...shhh don't tell)

I think the majority of the 750,000 owners that bought f-150s last year showed up to this thread.

or wait… did the only 13 out 750,000 that actually use the keypad show up?

im completely torn which scenario it is!!
