No, not really.

Realized that FDRS is intended to be used by dealerships and auto repair shops who have trained personnel. While you can purchase a subscription, hardware, and laptop to do it yourself, it's not really a DIY thing for luddites or the technologically challeged. That said, it's also NOT rocket science, so if you are reasonably computer savvy and can follow directions, you will likely be OK. But if you dont' know what you're doing, you can most certainly bunge up your truck and it might require someone who is more adept at things to get out of that jam.

That said, I did find a couple of PDF documents with some basic 411 on them a while back. They are from 2017, though, so some info may have changed. I'll attach them to this message.

Is it possible to figure out, or is it documented, what is included in each module update?
Not with any type of accuracy. As @rugedraw pointed out, there is a version history of the Power-up Updates on Wikipedia. A Power-up Updates contains one or more SW updates for various modules in your truck. The Wikipedia entry for each update does include some rudimentary notes about what features are being added, what fixed are being applied, etc., but those notes are in no way inclusive of everything that will get updated with that specific Power-up Update. And if you choose to do these yourself (FDRS + hardware), you won't see anything labeled as "Power-up Update" in FDRS -- you'll just see ALL the various SW updates available for each module (if outstanding).

You specifically asked about "HS1" in the picture I posted. All of the modules in your truck are connected to one of the many "Controller Area Networks" (aka CAN bus aka CAN communication bus). Think of them as small networks within the entire truck across which each module or application can communicate with another module or application without needing a host computer (think: server). There isn't just one CAN bus on your truck-- there are multiple. Each CAN bus is governed by a specific set of rules (CAN bus protocol) that determine how the various devices on that bus communicate with one another (same as how the HTTP protocol governs how web traffic moves between, say, the web server and your browser OR how your e-mail program communicates with the mail server). On that screenshot:

HS refers to "High Speed" CAN busses
MS refers to "mid speed" CAN busses
CAN FD has a good speed increase above HS-CAN (flexible data rate) and an increase in payload size (8 bytes to 64 bytes).

Certain modules are on each of those busses, and your hardware and software has to be able to connect to the appropriate bus to program or modify a specific module. For example, the PCM (Power Control Module), the IPC (Instrument Panel Cluster Module), and BCM (Body Control Module) are all on a HS-CAN, while HVAC (Heating, Ventilation & AC Module), DSM (Driver's Seat Module), and GPSM (Global Positioning System Module) are on the MS-CAN. The manufacturers do move modules from one bus to another, but I am just trying to give examples to explain the busses.

It seems like it might be useful to be able to make decisions about which updates to install, so for example you could avoid installing certain updates that are known troublemakers.
Again, FDRS isn't a DIY software and Ford expects trained automotive professionals to be using it.

I'm no licensed or professional mechanic, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express once or twice. So be sure to research further if you're relying on any of my info above ...

Hello everyone. My truck has been at the dealership since Monday for the updates. They told me everything is done except for BlueCruise. Could you please check to confirm what's been done. I would greatly appreciate it so I'll know before I pick it up. Thanks again!

They installed a bunch of updates, but are struggling with the APIM. At this point, they have tried to update it so many times, that the APIM is probably locked up due to too many failed attempts and they won't be able to update it. I also see they haven't updated the IPC yet. If they get too far in updates without doing the IPC, that is going to cause more issues. They haven't touched your truck since early in the morning on the 17th. They most likely opened a case with Ford since they can't the the update to work and are waiting for them to respond. I would not get my hopes up that they'll be able to fix it, but hopefully I am wrong.

To be honest, Ford sent a bulletin to dealers asking them not to perform Bluecruise programming on our trucks at this time. The fact that they are attempting to perform the BC updates on your truck is quite surprising to me. If they did open a case and are waiting on Ford to respond, I wonder if Ford will call them out for even attempting to update your truck. PTS does not show the tech even pulled the 21G01 campaign that details the steps in which you are supposed to update the modules. It looks the the tech is just updating everything at random.

Well there's not much good to say about that. They told me everything was done except BC. I suppose I should just go pick it up as they did say Ford wasn't recommending BC until next quarter. I guess I still won't be able to get OTA updates and will just have to wait until next quarter. I did get a new battery out of the deal but I suppose I shouldn't press for anything else with them.

I really appreciate you letting me know. I doubt I'm any better off than before taking it there.

Thanks again!

Well just to finish this off for now I have an update. I picked up the truck this morning. Dealership said Ford advised them to not go any further on attempting to update anything. They said next quarter they will roll out updates and I'm supposed to wait for that. Bottom line is I got the truck back but really didn't accomplish anything. I did get a free battery and a loaner vehicle so it could be worse.

As I mentioned before, Ford did release a TSB to dealers on January 4th not to do bluecruise programming for now. They did update some modules including your PCM which improves the drivability of your truck.

So there is a new OTA being pushed out to F150's. I have seen it sent to several F150's, so I added it to the Power Up Wiki. The update is 3.5.3.2 and it states the following:

FLARE-PRD-SOFTWARE-FNV2

Update ID : 750954-892446

Ford Power-Up 3.5.3.2 While you may have seen this update before, we’re resending to ensure some housekeeping features are included to help further enhance your user experience. We've been super busy. Check these out. Dynamic Screen Resizing When you’re using Android Auto™ or Apple CarPlay®, you can now make them appear on your touchscreen in the size you prefer. Feature availability varies by model. Ongoing updates like this help you enjoy the best possible version of your F-150® truck. Android Auto is a trademark of Google LLC. Apple CarPlay is a trademark of Apple Inc., registered in the U.S. and other countries.

Edit: The person who's truck I checked before I posted this told me he is part of Ford's Early Access Program. It is very unlike any one outside the program will see this particular update any time soon.

And every day I check the OTA dashboard just waiting to see one in progress. :-D
Maybe this one will hit me soon.

Is there anyone in Portland, OR / Vancouver, WA metro area that has the tool and the FDRS software that can help me with my updates?

Well that is good news after all. I'm just going to forget about the BC for awhile and check back with the dealership in a couple months. Thanks again!
