Is the complexity of powerboost worth it ?
I just received a Service Engine Soon warning light for my catalytic converter. Curious if this has happened with other PB owners or if it’s just mine?
I only have 22k miles, so I’m shocked by this warning message.

Glad you sleep well. A lithium fire is nothing like a gasoline fire. ICE has more fires because there are many many more older versions of them and lots of them being worked on at home, with the expected higher fire rate. Nobody working on an EV at home, yet that doesn't stop them from spontaneously combusting. If you have an EV fire and it fills your home with a hellsbrew of hazmat smoke, you are gutting it down to the studs to remove it. Good luck with that insurance nightmare. Homeowner insurance rates are beginning to reflect that risk, if you own one.
I didn’t say that the two fires are the same. Lithium fires burn much hotter among other things, no argument there. What I take issue with are the uninformed pushing lies about anything with a battery being ‘fire bombs’ or other sensationalist buzzword.
Also, I don’t believe your argument about people working on cars at home being the cause of ICE fires for a second.
Lithium fires generally more severe to extinguish compared to gasoline? True. Rate of occurrence compared to gasoline? Very low.

I’m also willing to bet that the ‘parked fires’, which do happen, are caused by faulty componentry (Chevy Bolt) or battery management software updates. The latter can be exacerbated by leaving a plug-in vehicle plugged in and unattended. I can’t say that I’ve heard of a single static battery fire outside of those two scenarios.
I’m under no delusion that battery fires don’t happen; they do. And when they do, they can be catastrophic.

27k miles for me and knock on wood no issues. PB is the way to go, you get several trucks in one:
- Eco mode, try and hyper mile, it becomes a game
- Sport mode, about as much power as a Raptor, and the mode I use the most
- Sick of hybrid/ICE transitions? Switch to tow mode and ICE is always on
- Powerstation mode - make your friends jealous as you tent camp with a house AC unit sticking out of your tent
I've started to learn little things, like if you tap the brakes the truck will usually switch to electric mode immediately. If I see a situation where I can definitely use electric for a while, I'll do that and get it to switch over before the truck normally would.
I'm getting 22.5 MPG so far with winter tires and idling in cold weather. I'll be interested to see what kind of mileage I can get in the summer.

I am very impressed with the gas mileage so far, I love it.
I bought it because the line gets really bad at the Mexican border and I usually wait for about three hours. Having it go all electric was a god send.
I just talked to my service advisor and salesman about any new upgrades to the 2024 Powerboost hybrid platform and was told nothing changed from 2023
Do you know otherwise?
