Is the complexity of powerboost worth it ?
Hello all. I just wanted to add my story. I purchased my 24 Lariat power boost brand new in August of 24. When I purchase a vehicle I treat it like a good marriage, to the end. A year and 4 months with 40k miles later yes 40k I’m pleased to say zero issues. The only issue was a recall for a radiator cowl trimming, they had to cut a few pieces in it to allow air to the intake. My daily commute to work is approximately 110 miles round trip. I leave early for work and yes I’m probably pissing a few people off because I’m cruising enjoying 30 mpg. But on the average I’m getting anywhere between 18 and 25mpg. I’m coming from an 06 Titan that I told everyone that I think it had a NASCAR engine in it. Smooth as silk and thirsty like a camel. Well I eventually killed it. I thought about a new Tundra but I think ford has been doing v6 bi turbos long longer so they must know a thing or two more. Plus I don’t think the Tundras is appealing at all. The power boost is the reason I came to an F150. Everyone has their opinions on what engine is better. I really just think their choice in engine is what’s best for them. I change my oil every 4 to 5k and both cabin and engine filters damn near every other oil change. I added a oil catch can even though the newer fuel system has both port and direct injection. I looked inside an intake on both valves added it for extra insurance. I’m really not thinking about the hybrid system failing. If it does it will be figured out. Yes it’s not fully refined enough for the price but it’ll do. Next year I’ll be at 80k and will give you guys an update but if something hating between I’ll chime in. Cheers.
My 2025 3.5PB is not as smooth as my 2021 3.5EB was, but it's mostly a stopping/starting roughness. If I didn't want/need the inverter, I would probably go back to the 3.5EB with the slightly larger fuel tank (36g vs 30.6g).
When I took my truck in for the warranty process I was given a loaner farm truck which I believe was equipped with the 2.7. I’ll admit it was a night and day difference in driving experience. Of course it wasn’t a 4x4 and being a long bed single cab there was a noticeable weight difference. The mannerisms are very different. Very peppy and light. The “rolling generator” option and the possibility of getting a few more mpg s did tip the scale in the decision. Living down here in south Florida and dealing with hurricanes on the regular it may come in handy one day. I didn’t do a test drive before I bought it so the drive home had my looking like the rock with the one raised eyebrow. Yes the engagement and disengagement of the hybrid motor did get some getting use to and other things like the way it revs in park or when in reverse. Still I’m more worried about the reliability of the 10 speed transmission than the hybrid system. Would I make the same purchase? The same color and trim for sure but 50/50 on being hybrid. Not because of complexity but more weight. Will they be able to refine the engagement transition? I doubt it but so far in the domestic market I think Ford has done it the best. Apologies for being long winded.
