Can you direct me to a source for a little more information? Behind the front passenger seat? Or rear?
And what does TCU stand for again? Telematics Control Unit?

Behind the rear seat on the passenger side. Yes, that's what it stands for.

That's a good idea. I forgot about that.

That guy's truck HAD to have come down the line in the same batch as ours! It is almost identical, down to the aftermarket Line-X. The only difference is the paint color (we have Avalanche).
Going now to try to find the TCU!

So I found the TCU. There are three plugs: a purple connector, closest inboard (toward the middle). A blue plug, that appears to be connected to a phone wire, of all things. And a bundle of wires that appear to be connected to a black connector, most outboard. Is it the blue plug, or the bundle or wires most outboard?

Nevermind. Re-read the referenced thread above. They say "nearest the outside," so I did. A real PAIN getting the plastic retainer out. But there was no way I could get to it otherwise.
Leaving it unpluged overnight. Will report back what happens when I re-connect the wires.

This truck is an 8" screen with no nav. From what I was told, there are no OTA issues with these. However, your truck has not gotten an OTA since November of 2021. I do not know enough about your type of truck to intelligently give you advice. To me, it seems like that is a long time without getting an update, but it could be normal. I am not sure. Your Sync version is SYNC4 v4.0.21ddd. I cannot find any data about that software version.

No joy on unplugging the TCU. Ended up leaving it unplugged just under 24 hours as I had an early meeting this morning and didn't get a chance to mess with it until after I got back home. It still won't connect to the cell network. WiFi came back up immediately. So we have access to anything that can be done through WiFi. But all the options (search, favorites, etc.) on the Nav Page are still ghosted out. If you try to select, say, search, shows a pop-up that says go to settings to activate connectivity (paraphrased). If you select the connectivity button on the pop-up, it sits and spins for a while, then says connectivity isn't available, try again later. And if the problem persists, contact your dealer (again, paraphrased).

If you try to go to connected services in the settings screen, it just sits and spins for a while, then the spinner disappears, and no messages or anything.

It looks like we're just going to have to wait until our service appt. in late March.

Well, it took it about 4 hours after the reboot of the TCU, but it appeared to work itself out yesterday afternoon. My wife drove it to run errands. It still wasn't working when she left the house. Made her first stop, came back out, still not working. Made her second, longer stop, came back out. When she started it up, it came up with something like "Standby to complete connected services." I think she said. Since then, everything has been working normally. So it appears the TCU reboot (unplugging it and waiting, in our case, 24 hours, before reconnecting it) worked. Eventually. 4-ish hours later.

I do have the 8" screen, no nav. Then again nav isn't that necessary here in the islands. My truck is your basic STX trim but with FX4. It's frustrating that the toggle button to turn automatic updates on, doesn't do just that. It's not grayed out and you would think regardless of trim...everyone would receive an OTA. I have very low expectations for anything Ford electrical/electronic. Mahalo for looking up my info though.

I would take it to your local dealer and tell them you have never gotten an OTA update to get them to manually update your APIM. If your truck it locked out of getting updates, that will fix your issue. Even with a base trim, getting the OTA's will eventually unlock some new features for you. More importantly, there are OTA's that improve the everyday drivability of your truck, so it is still important for your truck to get them. I don't know much about the software on your truck, but it seems to be the same that it came out of the factory with, and that is definitely not normal.
