Curious as well about cost and difficulty going from Sync 2 to Sync 3.

2015 F150 with 8" screen and NAV

Are you removing the flash drive before it was done installing or did this error pop up while it was installing?

Because I got that error message as well but it was because I removed the flash drive during installation, the reason I removed it was because I didn't realize anything was installing. It took several minutes for my screen to even show it was updating.

I've had the same issue w/ my 2016 as well. Mem3 error using 16gb fat32 thumb drive with no other files on it. Have re-downloaded twice and still getting error. Will try another thumb drive but don't understand why they claim 32gb minimum considering there is plenty of space on my existing 16gb one. Attempting to go from 2.3 to 3.0.

Cost is about $1000-$2000 for a new headunit. $500-$1200 for a used one with nav.

Difficulty is as easy as being able to turn a screwdriver. Pop off the top speaker panel, take off the screws, pull the radio bezel from the top and unplug it, remove the four screws holding the screen, unplug the screen. Now do everything in reverse with the new one, you might need a new gps antenna not sure.

32GB minimum is probably a generic requirement, the actual files are less than 2GB in size.

I installed my update using a 4GB drive, worked just fine.

I very much disagree. I have done 4 of these now.

A user needs to know how to use ForScan and or IDS and or windows remote desktop client (since DanMC85 will program modules over remote desktop for a fee).

I will not help anyone over remote desktop. There are too many risks.

My personal average cost all said and done from Sync 2 to Sync 3 is around $850 CAD, that was before I learned about what Acool is doing with NAV daughter boards (adding Nav to non-Nav Sync 3).

Going from the stock little 4.2" screen to Sync 3 is substantially more expensive. I posted a 40 minute long video to youtube explaining that entire process.

The least I ever paid for a good condition used Sync 3 system was $190 CAD I pulled from a wrecked Focus myself.

Two others I pad around $700CAD for online and those were without factory Nav (which I think is pointless anyway).

The first one I looked at was while helping someone else. Theirs cost $1100 CAD and they bought extras from 4D tech on top of that and paid close to $1300 CAD by the time they were done.

I would ballpark the cost of a Sync 3 with factory nav upgrade to anywhere between $500 to $800 CAD or USD (I say that because there is a lot of wiggle room).

If you find one online just keep in mind you can find better deals in person if you start visiting salvage yards on your own. It is easier to get the best deal of you dont call ahead. Calling ahead gives those places time to properly research the parts and charge you more.

My advice when picking any part is to not call ahead, show up with tools, a fist full of cash, know what you want, a rough idea of how to take vehicle trim apart and get yourself a great deal.

All salvage yards have a car battery or booster pack on hand which is beneficial because you can verify before purchase you are getting the right thing and overview its working condition.

Cost is really going to be subjective to each persons own ability to bargain hunt.

I advise someone should have moderate general technical skills / a basic understanding of how computer systems work before attempt this upgrade. Think of it as being: Microsoft A+ certified technician easy.

Install time should take no longer than three hours start to finish, but you can probably do it in 90 minutes.

Anyone touching any part of any Ford dash will break or lose a few of these trim clips, so buy some now. Ford uses them everywhere on everything.

Motocraft Trip Clip

They cost 30 cents each at my local Ford dealer. They cost more on Tasca but you can actually buy them super cheap using the Jeep part number since they are made by Mopar:

If you PM me about this I might reply sometime in the next 11 to 18 months. You will getter a faster response asking your questions on these public forums.

I have the line as Texas Fording has mentioned. I cant see it though while driving. Its covered by the radio face-plate. I was all worried about it before the switch but now that I know I cant see it, it doesnt bother me at all.
