Success! So, I did as VilleFan suggested and moved around my home mesh routers. The newest build coupled with my router move seems to have done the job. It's connecting to WiFi no problem. Thanks all! Now I just have to order a new IPMB because the white line is killing me.

Just did the 4.2 sync to sync 3 upgrade last week and wanted to say thank you to everyone who had any input into making it possible.

Huge thank you to Airborne_Ape for your APIM page of insanity which was key for me to have the confidence to buy a harness off amazon and rewire the required pins to make it plug and play in addition to your masterful YouTube video of the process from start to finish.

Very well done sir.

The only issue I’m having is the APIM gps antenna circuit open fault popping up in forscan every time I connect and clear the DTC. I added the fakra gps antenna to the back of my non-nav APIM and it solved my IPC compass from going crazy as well as showing the proper heading for the compass on the home screen on the APIM but I’m still receiving the fault in forscan. Any thoughts?

Likely the issue is that it does not like the GPS antenna you received. I can't claim its a bad/defective one.. I just don't know -- they're cheap and mine is doing the same thing but mine is a NAV version. It complains about 50-60% of the time and always has the DTC set if you check w/ Forscan. However, once the truck is running I see no issues -- the NAV is just fine.. The GPS antenna I bought came from Ebay and was maybe $7...? But I'm replacing it with one that is from Amazon that I found mentioned in one of these threads and that user had success with -- it's like $12 and change. I've received it but not had the desire yet to dig into my dash again... YMMV!

Seems like a lot of these antennas are hit and miss. Got mine from amazon and looking into the gps signal in the test settings it shows it bouncing off multiple satellites. Before it was installed it didn’t show a signal and the compass showed a constant north heading. After plugging it in the compass moved appropriately so seems like it’s working. It’s fine if I can’t clear it as long as it’s working but it bugs me just that little bit lol.

In regards to updating sync 3, I grabbed a vin off a wrecked truck and added it to my owner account to get the updates. Worked fine to get v3.0 and downloaded it to a USB. It installed fine. The upload file to confirm the update had my vin on it so I copy/pasted the donor vin over my vin to seem as if that truck had confirmed it was installed but the file wasn't accepted on my owner account.

Any way to confirm to Ford the update worked without having that file to receive any future releases?

Hey guys, I need some help - I'm interested in upgrading my 2015 platinum to sync 3 also. Found what I think is the right part from a 2016 XLT. Can anyone tell from a photo if its correct?

I just got this finished today. I actually used the motorcraft site to get an .ab file based upon my VIN, and loaded that to the APIM module. It worked fine, and added all my features like heated wheel, seats etc. The only manual adjustment I had to do was enable NAV for Sync3.

Quick question - I assume having Ford write your VIN to the new module is for updates? The module I bought is Sync3 V2.0

Not worth it IMO. The newest update allows you to use Waze with non nav systems. Unless you have the digital cluster there isn't much of a must have difference...

Alas, if you must have it all you would need is a nav Apim and an antenna. So off ebay ur out the door $200-250 with programming.
