Upgrading SYNC to SYNC 3
#171
Where is the outboard amps located at 502A and above? There's a couple B&O amps on ebay for 270ish. Curious on adding that with aftermarket speakers.
Thanks!
I answered my own question on this last night.

I have no links.
At least three users on this site have successfully installed Sync connect in their Ford vehicle where it was never an option.
If you drive a 2015 or 2016 Ford the BCM will have to be updated to the latest calibration or completely changed out as well (not 100% certain which).
2017 and later model years should simply be plug and play (I think).
If you dig around on this site and other ford forums you'll find more posts about users who've done it. There are no write ups or threads on the topic as far as I'm aware.
Reportedly it's as simple as wiring in the modem to the proper can bus and power and then (depending on your model year) updating the BCM firmware or changing the BCM if necessary.
One or two options may also need to be configured with ForScan.
My truck shipped with Sync connect so I have no need to try the procedure.
There are no writeups or guides because some users fear Ford will single out their VIN and black list their Sync ESN.

Sweet! I just fired up my Sync 3 system for the first time.. It initially complained about NAV not working but after a while was happy.. It's version 2.3 (build 17109_PRODUCT).. I tried their WIFI updater but either it gets stuck or claims there's no updates. If I want to move to what is shown above do I use the USB path I assume after registering my VIN and all that w/ Ford..? that's my assumption.. thanks!
ps. I've not yet mounted mine -- the brackets are needing work to be correct as I wasn't aware of the fact that there are two styles of mounting brackets.. doh!

TexasFording Can you please send me info on the Sync 2 to Sync 3 swap. I have a 2015 Platinum with all the bells and whitstles.

I'm having a helluva time getting my Sync 3 to connect to WiFi. After the initial upgrade, I connected to my home WiFi and it successfully searched for an update. Ever since then, I've been unable to get it to connect to ANY WiFi signal (to include the original). It will see them all, but it just sits there saying "connecting to WiFi" for an eternity and eventually says there was an error. All this said, is there a way to fix this and/or update via USB since my truck is a 2015, I won't be able to download the updates via the Ford website. TIA!
