I was able to find a Sync3 APIM with Nav out of an MKZ at a VERY fair price! I just need the screen, Nav antenna, motorcraft harness + carplay compatible usb hub. I think I will be able to do this all-in for about $500, which works for me. I will just need to program the APIM as you said to work with my trucks feature set. (Or pay someone to)

So I’m trying to figure out what exactly I need to uprgade my system.
I currently have the 8” sync 2 so these are the parts I gathered that I will need:
Sync 3 APIM
8” Sync 3 screen
Apple CarPlay USB Hub
Gps antenna? And compass?
Is that all I need o is there anything else I don’t know about.

I've never seen a system swap where it wasn't needed at some stage.
Google search 'DanMc85 2G Fusion Sync 3' and follow his step by step guide.
If you also feel like finding a pre activated modem out of a wrecked F150 you can upgrade your BCM firmware to the latest calibration and add Sync connect / cell phone remote start while you're at it.

I just did this swap on my 2015. MFT to 2018 Sync 3.
I got the screen and apim from a 2018 Raptor with Navi,$650+ Sent him back my old MFT screen and apim.
USB Hub off Amazon $45
GPS Antenna off Amazon $15
Male to Female jumper wires off Amazon, $7. Came with a pack of 120, I used 2. Power and ground.
I already owned Forscan OBD cord, but, it wad $29 off Amazon.
Thankfully my unit came from a Raptor and was equally equiped so it was plug and play. I need to adjust a few settings in the apim but I am in no rush. I need to turn on ambient lighting control and add hot/cold/ seats & steering whee heat to home screen. Those are the only 2 channges I need to make.
I completed the entire swap in less than 45 mins. Easiest thing ever.
You need to research and research. You will get robbed using 4dtech or any other company for parts.
I am all in under $800 for a complete 2018 Sync3 w/Navi swap.

Do you have a link or anymore details to this?
Once you get the modem, will it see your truck as a 2015 or the wrecked teuck you pulled the modem from? Or is this a 2016 + thing due to the BCM?

I just got a '18 XLT 300a and will be doing this upgrade.I have watched Airborne Ape's youtube videos several times. Lots of good info and thanks! Ive skimmed this entire thread as well. A few questions still. Feel free to scream search here! ;-)
Can the ACM work with both sync 2 and sync 3? I dont have sirius xm, and am eyeing up an ACM. There are so many ACM p/n's. Is there a holy grail ACM? One with Sirius and HD?I want to get Sat. radio in asap.
Also where is the actual Amplifier? Is that the APIM? Fords have more acronyms than social media. Is it worth looking for a sony or b&O amp and building a system off of that?

It is not backwards compatible. You dont have the harnesses that make this work. You can try to retrofit but I am not aware of someone who has done it successfully.

In your truck the ACM is the amplifier, in 502As and above there is an outboard amp.
