I have a 2016 XLT with Nav and just did the upgrade this morning and it worked out just fine. I did not upgrade the USB ports because I don't have an Apple phone but do have a Samsung S7 and will plan to use the AA.
Thanks for the work of all those that got this working.
Just saw that Amazon Music was just added to carplay. Updated the phone, but not seeing the icon show up. Will Sync3 have to be updated as well for new apps to be added? or is it driven soley from the phone?
2016 Sync 1.0 to 2.2 / USB Update worked perfectly
Just did the Sync updates to 2.2 along with the USB upgrade. Worked perfectly. The Sync update was a little "different" as it seemed to take a few power cycles to kick the updates in. The replacement USB hub appeared to look exactly like the replacement, but it some that "Apple Magic Pixie Dust" that makes CarPlay work.
The USB hub started off a little rough. Was able to get the left side off pretty easily with a flat head screwdriver because I had room for a screwdriver. The right side was a challenge, but this screwdriver made it easy.
It popped right out and plugged in the new one. Plugged in my iPhone and turned on the key. CarPlay came right up. Apps work fairly well, but really do need more apps. I find it strange that there is an MLB app and not a weather app. Don't get me wrong. The MLB app is awesome and I use it a lot, but it seems weather would be something that most would demand.
Thanks to all the folks on this forum that provided great information.

Are you sure it didn't go to a second screen on car play? Mine shows up.
On your iPhone, go to Settings --> General --> Car Play and select Sync. All the compatible apps show up there and you can re-arrange the screen from there.

yea, just tried it. My Amazon app had not updated yet. Works great!
I guess any and all issues people are having since they updated via the unofficial links online are some of the bugs Ford are trying to work out of the update before they release it for Ford vehicles.
Patiently waiting for the official release.
This is your go-to response GABAR. Why are you even on this thread?!? You'll be waiting until hell freezes over. I updated without any issues whatsoever.

I just completed the update using Robry's files for units with NAV. And it worked great!
A few things I encountered which I want to point out so some of you can avoid the same issues I faced:
1. Make sure you are using a good USB drive. I first tried to update using a crappy 4GB non-branded drive and it failed miserably. No biggie. Just try again.
2. So I moved the files onto my 32GB USB 3.0 Silicon Power drive and the update process took about 19 minutes. This was completed during my drive to work this morning.
You want to make sure Android Auto (AA) is already downloaded on your Android device before plugging into SYNC.
After the update, SYNC Navigation will take FOREVER to load the first time.
PS. I formatted my USB drive on my iMac to ExFAT
PSS. Android Auto works perfectly with existing USB hub.
PSSS. I recommend USB 3 drive for its faster read/write speeds. You can grab one for less than $10 on Amazon.
PSSSS. Aside from having AA on v2.2, SYNC will now display cell phone signal strength, more navigation options (3D cityscape), and some other small detail updates.
