Current SYNC 3 and CarPlay/Android Auto Information
I loaded up 2.2 and installed the compliant hub. I forced myself to use carplay for a week to give it (and me) a fair chance.
At the end of the week I disabled carplay and haven't touched it since. I don't even feel like trying it again I disliked it that much. I prefer the Ford Sync 3 100% over carplay. My iphone still handles all the phone stuff and streams music, but Sync 3 is the interface to it. For me it's seamless and intuitive.
Remember, that's all for me. Someone else may have a different experience with it depending on what functions they want over others and what interface they are more comfortable with.
I can't speak for android auto. Don't have it.

I just did this for my Non-Nav 2016. I downloaded the files, unzipped them into a file on my desktop, then loaded the one jump drive with the two files for "step one" and the second jump drive with the two files for "step two".
When you open the download file, you will see a README with very straightforward and concise directions (and a disclaimer). Follow these and all will be well. My update appears to have worked, but I am still waiting on my new USB module to confirm that CarPlay works.
I have to say that I have loved every Ford that I have owned and even though Ford seems to be dragging their heals getting the update out, the Ford community makes up for it almost everytime. Way to go guys!
Here are the directions from the download:
1. USING A WINDOWS BASED COMPUTER UNZIP UPGRADE FILE 1 TO THE ROOT FOLDER OF FLASH DRIVE
2. YOU WILL END UP WITH AUTOINSTALL FILE AND SYNCMYRIDE FOLDER IN THE ROOT OF THE USB DRIVE
3. TAKE FLASH DRIVE TO YOUR VEHICLE AND REMOVE ANYTHING PLUGGED INTO THE USB PORTS
4. START YOUR VEHICLE AND INSERT UPGRADE FLASH DRIVE
5. UPGRADE PROCESS WILL BEGIN AND TAKE APPROXIMATELY 10-20 MINUTES
6. ONCE UPDATE IS DONE (A MESSAGE WILL APPEAR) YOU MAY REMOVE THE FLASH DRIVE AND TURN THE VEHICLE OFF
7. NOW...USING A WINDOWS BASED ERASE ALL FILES ON THE SAME USB DRIVE
8. THEN UNZIP UPGRADE FILE 2 TO THE ROOT FOLDER OF FLASH DRIVE
9. YOU WILL END UP WITH AUTOINSTALL FILE AND SYNCMYRIDE FOLDER IN THE ROOT OF THE USB DRIVE
10. TAKE FLASH DRIVE TO YOUR VEHICLE AND REMOVE ANYTHING PLUGGED INTO THE USB PORTS
11. START YOUR VEHICLE AND INSERT UPGRADE FLASH DRIVE
12. UPGRADE PROCESS WILL BEGIN AND TAKE APPROXIMATELY 5-15 MINUTES
13. ONCE UPDATE IS DONE (A MESSAGE WILL APPEAR) YOU MAY REMOVE THE FLASH DRIVE AND TURN THE VEHICLE OFF
14. LEAVE THE VEHCILE OFF FOR APPROXIMATELY 5 MINUTES AND RESTART
15. YOU WILL SEE THAT YOU NOW ARE RUNNING VERSION 2.2

I went from 1.0 to 2.2.
There is a very clear warning to only go from 1.1 or 1.0. Apparently if you try to upgrade from 2.0 you may mess up your whole Sync system.
I understand that if all you want is Apple CarPlay and you already have the 2.0, you can just plug in a new USB hub. I ordered my HC3Z 19A387 B from EastGateFordPartsCanada.ca. Came in at just under $90 Canadian with taxes/shipping/etc.
Here is a link for the part if you are in Canada: https://www.eastgatefordpartscanada....ce-hc3z19a387b

Yup thank you for the feed back Ont, I know all about the carplay stuff and the usb hub but I have android and for whatever reason 2.0 with AA does not work with my galaxy S6 Edge which is ridiculous because it is a very modern phone. Anyone out there done the upgrade from 2.0? I know it says not to do it from 2.0 but I was pretty sure some of you out there had done the 2.0-2.2 with no problems, let me know, thanks!
