Add me to list also , 2016 XLT, just got from dealer and screen was not working right driving home . I thought it might just have been from the hot sun on the dash. Nope. (Into dealership to figure out what it is (APIM) I'm pretty sure after reading this forum. Funny thing is , the truck is "certified pre- owned" . How did hey not notice the big scree in the middle of the dash not working right? 123 check points they say..... need 124 I think.

Finally got it fixed. The dealer said the APIM had to be programmed by Ford with my VIN or other vehicle information, then sent to the dealer for installation. All is well and I'm up to date on SYNC3. Apple Carplay and everything working. I'm happy.

I am on my 4th trip back to dealership for this same problem. I told them several times about the APIM but the say there is a process before fixing it. Process must be see how many time we can make him drive up here. Why is it so difficult to. just replace it. Obviously Ford knows these things are not quality modules.

I went to another dealer to get it fixed. The first one tried twice to replace it and sort of gave me the run around. So not sure if they just weren't talking to Ford HQ properly or what.

Solution: go to a different dealer.

Wrote this all in another thread somewhere recently but here's the short version. Issue affects pre-Nov 1 2016 vehicles. Depending on how they interpret your problem they may apply SSM-46367 to the FCDIM or likely apply SSM-47380 to the APIM. After taking my truck in for this problem back on the 23rd I logged into my Ford owner account to see if anything showed up on this issue post-servicing. It shows that Sync had been updated from v5.10 FR3T-14D544-AM to 5.11 FR3T-14D544-AN on the date of my appointment (July 23rd). Had my truck 18 months before getting the black display and dead controls/buttons as well as dead media buttons on the steering wheel ... and of course no backup camera display. Time will tell if Ford did anything of value here. Didn't get any runaround from the dealer. Went in early in the morning to explain the problem and they said bring the truck in at 1pm for programming (which took an hour ... guess they have to crank-start IDS).

2017 Raptor here. Add me to the list. It all started when my Navigation stopped working. My location on the map doesn't move and is stuck at an intersection near my home, the compass always shows North, and the 911 Assist now defaults to off. When the map screen is displayed, eventually a small icon will appear in the lower left corner that has the letters "GPS" with a red strike through them. I called Ford tech support and they had me do a soft reset then a master reset; both with no success. They they recommended that I update the Sync software to the most current version. I attempted to do so by strictly following the instructions at owner.ford.com. When I plugged the USB stick in, an error message immediately appeared that read: "Installation Failed. MEM_ERR01. Please download the files and try again". A call to tech support at this point recommended a visit to the dealership. The truck was dropped off this morning and I got a call this afternoon to report that they need to replace the APIM.

We'll see how this goes...

I have a 2016 that was built in April/May of 16. Had Bluetooth dropping on me all the time on calls and Pandora. GPS error as well. Thanks to this thread I knew exactly what to tell Ford when I took it in. Still took me two tries to get them to replace it (first time they insisted that reprogramming it fixed the issue). Thanks to all for contributing and good luck to those still having issues.

I did have my APIM replaced and now it works great! they also tried the reprogram but it didn't work. They have to take several steps before warranty will allow APIM replacement. I know one thing...... VERY aggravating when your screen does not work !

So I have also been told that I need a new APIM since I am having the same issues everyone else seems to be having. My problem started when I did an update over WiFi from 2.2 to 2.3. In a little over 2 years, have never had any issues at all. Then 3.0 came out about a week after these issues started, I upgraded successfully via USB and still had problems. Then I reinstalled 2.2 since everything was fine before I did the upgrade, no change. Then I upgraded from 2.2 to 3.0, no change. Soft and Master resets did nothing. Disconnected the battery for a few hours, nothing. Left devices unplugged/unsynced, still had problems. Went to the dealer for a full erase and reinstall of 3.0 and still had the same issues. That’s when they said they need to replace the APIM. And of course during all this, my warranty expired and won’t cover it. So now I’m left with paying $1k to fix this or buy an extended warranty to cover it. Really pissed about the whole thing since I would have been covered if I would have taken it in when I started having the problem but I never thought I would have to replace the brains of the unit on a truck that’s a little over 2 years old.

Here is the catch though with mine that I haven’t seen reported anywhere. I did the Car Play upgrade last year and didn’t really like the interface as much as I did the Sync 3 setup, so I kept it turned off. I kept turning it off during all the resets as well. The last time I reset it, I was also on the phone and didn’t think about it and left Car Play turned on. I plugged my iPhone in because it needed a charge and 2 seconds later the system switched over to Car Play and started playing over my speakers like it did when the Bluetooth was working (which the BT was still disconnected at this point) which I thought was strange. So I kept Car Play turned on and started using it. Now, the system works fine like it did before I upgraded to 2.3. I can’t figure it out at all. As long as I plug my phone in before I start my truck or within 10-15 seconds after, everything works great. I can even exit Car Play and use Sync 3 in its native form and that works great too. Unplug the phone or don’t plug it in , the system craps the bed and starts acting up like crazy.

So not sure if this will work for anyone else experiencing these issues or not but I think I may just roll with it for now. Not that I have a choice, my dealer said the APIM is backordered and there is no timeframe available for him either. He also can’t order it until I buy the product or the extended warranty, which is a total joke.
I tried this on my 17 ford lariat with all of the same symptoms and it seems to have worked. I will continue to drive with the phone connected through CarPlay and post if the results in a week or so
