APIM Module replacement?
Second week that my local dealer has had the truck for more than half the week to diagnose yet again the same problem. Just called and said with no stored codes he doesn’t have the “smoking gun” needed to replace the APIM under warranty per Ford. Going to pick up my truck again, but I know I’ll be taking it back soon as this problem happens on about 50% of power cycles.
@Ford Motor Co. feel like chiming in yet? I paid good money for your warranty and now that something has gone wrong, I can’t use it. Known issue with a known fix but it’s like pulling teeth trying to get it done. Went without my truck Mon-Thurs last week and Mon-Wed this week for diagnosis with no real repair done yet. No loaner and can’t take the rental that my Ford warranty covers until it’s determined to be a warranty issue so my wife is having to juggle running my daughter and I around everywhere we need to go.

just had my apim replaced, they even fixed the cam phaser solenoid that was bad, no issues since. was at 95k miles and they charged me the $100 deductible only. it might be a dealer specific issue you are dealing with. aka they just dont care after the sale.
Glad they got you taken care of. I picked up the truck Wednesday afternoon and yesterday (Thursday morning) the problems resurfaced. I sent a video to the service advisor (re: smoking gun) and I am waiting for his instructions on what to do next.
Bumping this thread to ask:
If your APIM was replaced under your Ford extended warranty, was your dealer able to pull a code from the module?
My dealer has been giving me the run around. First visit claimed they couldn't recreate the problems, but still updated it and charged me for it. Second visit, couldn't recreate the problem and service advisor said with no code or proof, they didn't have their "smoking gun" for a warranty claim. Now, third dealer visit I brought it in and the problems were glaringly obvious. Service advisor came out and sat in the driver's seat, observed all issues with me and verified my complaints. We shut off and restarted the truck, problem persisted. The next day, calls me and says his tech can't find anything wrong with it and wants me to come drive it for his tech to see the issues.
I called corporate ford's extended warranty department and they advised me to have the dealer submit the claim anyway since the advisor saw the problems firsthand and I have a video of the problem happening. The woman on the phone told me it is a gray area and with no code I may get some pushback on the claim. Now, I want to get the ball rolling on that, but if they deny the claim, am I up a creek? It's obvious my dealer doesn't care to go to bat for me so I'm wondering if I'm going to be in a worse spot if the claim gets denied.
I hate having to leave my truck at the dealer for 3-5 days at a time but one of these times they will likely get a code right?

I'm not sure if you can submit the claim before they replace it or not (if you cannot determine that before it is replaced by the dealer, and Ford denies the claim, you'll be paying dealer prices for the new APIM). If the dealer replaces the APIM and you have to pay, I'd expect well over $1000. Of course, free if the Warranty is approved. Another option is to replace it yourself by finding a used one from a junk yard (maybe $200ish) and programming it with FORScan. Yet another option is to find one of many sellers online who will sell you a programmed APIM (you do the replacement) but usually those are about $500 or up (depends on whether or not you have NAV as well). If you have another dealer near by, maybe you could check with them the next time it acts up.
Sorry it has been such a challenge, and good luck.
2016 f150 xl. Radio/backup camera Screen went blank but still have sound. My truck does not have sync, no module behind the screen. Does not have audio control on steering wheel. Does not have the USB port just an audio jack input only. Was told it was the apim module but I've searched the whole truck and not located it. But it has the u0253 code. Any info or a point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.
