Adding Front Camera to XLT
Since it is going to take me several days to read all the way through thus thread (And I will do it), I thought I would post what I plan to do for a 4 camera system; and then modify plans, if the thread content indicates change.
Since the cost of Ford OEM parts is way too high and you have no control over image quality AND due to the complications of modifying the built in devices for the many obscure Ford options, I plan to just do everything as a separate issue.

DVR - Located in upper glove box, records 4 HD digital cameras, plus GPS, plus several vehicle parameters, at full frame rate. Usual recording to SD card is looped (records over old stuff when it needs to), and starts recording on power up.
>< snip .....
Cameras - Up to 4 HD quality digital cameras. I plan front, left, right, rear (but still useable even with tailgate lowered). It would be nice to have the side cameras with 2 positions, driving & parking but need to think about that.

The small DVR and cameras that I have planned to use are LVDS as they are used in mobile applications. In one or two posts in this thread, it was indicated that Ford switched from analog (NTSC/PAL) cameras to LVDS cameras with the 2016/sync3 models. I have a 2016 XLT SuperCab, 8" center display with sync 3 V2.2.
Are there any experts out there as far as the cameras, interfaces & wiring? Are the 2016 side mirror cameras LVDS, in which case I would just get 2 of those and use them in my my system?
Does anyone have a good photo of the side mirror cameras, unmounted would be nice? All of the photos I seem to be able to find are black cameras mounted in a black mirror so no real detail is visible. Might have to visit the local Ford dealer and take my own.
Only other comment so far is that the Rufus system looks nice. Now if they can only make it work with Sync 3 v2.2. I assume there is no record capability so no dashcam like recording. My system is more like a 'cockpit black box' for ground vehicles.
Is there anyway that I can just install a front camera

and wire it to a switch and use the factory display without messing with the software

The only thing I can get to work is an Amazon Fire Stick since a Chromecast will not send audio separately via bluetooth. There is an option to switch the output of the sound on the phone to the phone speaker, but that is not a good option either. My 16 sync 3 does not have an audio in except for bluetooth. Roku also does not send audio seperately unless you hook up the remote to some headphones/bluetooth puck. What are you guys using on your Rostra for an HDMi setup?
Latest news is that they are fully aware of the issue and they are working on it. They indicated it would be two weeks for a fix, but last time it was more. I really like the Rostra system, but I also am kind of wondering what others are using for their HDMI setups?

I've been thinking about this as well i have back up camera that is on sync 3. Here i thought maybe splice and try to figure out with a toggle how to switch between cameras. Here is my best and easiest plan that i might attempt. I bought a back up camera license plate mount and used it on an older truck and deck with video. And it was easy install. So using the same license plate camera and if you are like me and have the spot in the middle of your dash that drops down a bit. Setting this unit in there and then using either a splice to ignition so on while always driving or a simple toggle button to turn it on whenever you need it. How do i load pic?
