So you can add a front camera to Sync 3 and have everything work as if it was the OE? I am looking at a 157" wheel base, though concerned about maneuvering it in small places. It would be nice to see how far I can pull up. Do you have to switch gears to activate the front camera or is there an easy way to do this at slow speeds, like pulling into a parking spot?

When you say other device, are you talking about having a separate LCD or a different way of connecting into the infotainment?

I've been relatively inactive on this since starting the thread because I've been seeking a solution with a button to activate the camera (plus had some technical difficulty with my aftermarket camera).

@camera-source.com This is very interesting to me and I'm curious how it will work for the Sync 3 8" screen as well. If the install is easier then what I originally planned I'll be giving the new product a try.

My latest idea on the subject was to use the floor transmission shifter "+" button... According to the schematic, this buttons should provide a 0v (GND) when clicked. I was looking into keeping your original idea and wire the relay (or video switcher) when the "+" button is click. Would just have to maintain the button clicked to have the front display instead of the back. Release the button and goes back to the normally connected side of the relay to display the back. Could also have 2 relay in parallel to enable the power to the front cam at the same time...

Just an idea a this point... (But a question has risen lately as for the type of video signal that the APIM and display are expecting from the video camera... Some have dougts about it not being "standard composite video"...)

But I must say I'm curious as for the camera-source have to offer...

That could work well and would be easy to switch + maintain stock look. Since I was planning on using the reverse camera delay option, I would be worried about getting confused when the screen showed the reverse camera image but I was in drive, or it showed the front camera image and I still had the truck in reverse. That's why I thought connecting the relay to the power wire for the tail lights would ensure the image (front/rear) on the screen matched the gear I was in.

The discussion on the video signal is what concerns me about the original idea, since I wouldn't be able to use the signal from any generic aftermarket camera.

Just returned from the SEMA show. There are aftermarket 360 degree camera systems coming out shortly. Similar to what FORD is using now.

Yes, that's what I thaught. What I like about the "+" button is that it is a momentary switch (while the button in pressed, its show the "front" whatever the transmission position is at. With the camera delay, I can check the front and reverse when the transmission is in reverse or drive... Nice! :-)
