That said, some have said that they haven't had a problem Autolites. For a time, I thought they made improvements to their quality control. It was short lived, still hit and miss problems. I recall one user posting pictures of his new set after they quit working, - two of his plugs turned all kinds of funky colors on the outside. They clearly over heated....couldn't handle the heat range.

Motorcraft and Autolite plugs are made at the same factory. Motorcrafts are built precisely to Ford specifications, - Autolites are the rejects. At least that's what it looks like lol.

Huh, so it wasn't dropped ? Box could have been dropped at a store or at the factory for that matter. Did you use a Snap on plug socket by chance ? There is a string of them that are hard on d- insulators. SK, F150 socket or tapped to an extension (still using that style lol).

It wasn't dropped by me. I looked at the plug before I put it in and didn't notice anything wrong with it. I used a deep well 5/8 impact socket. But not the impact lol. Used the tourqe ratchet set at 12 ft/lbs. just the same way I did with the motorcraft I just put in. I don't know what happen to this plug. Not a clue. It was fine when I put it in.

Just a heads up, 12 isn't enough torque on these plugs. They back out and then they eventually blow out and strip the threads on their way out. I believe I saw the new torque that ford updated to was 32 ft/lbs but I'm not 100% sure. You should be able to find it on the forum pretty easy.

From what I've heard most of the plug issues were do to over torqueinn and stretching the threads causing them to blow out
