Right! Forgot to mention, same sort of thing or event here, in the past. We have Milan Dragway here, and yea, they had the same Midnight racing, think they called it Grudge Night lol. Not sure what's going on there now a days.. Took a look, I notice they still have the Test and Tune events there which began about a decade ago. No midnight racing listed, but I'm not sure why they would do away with it, it's most likley seasonal which is why I'm not seeing it.

White, my '87 was always faster than the MAS - air cars stock for stock. Speed density was great until you took modding that one step to far.

Brew, those Nationals could be in the 12's for about $700. I never messed with them.

My Buddy had an 88 LX and for some damn reason, that thing just had something extra to it.... bastard would stay right with those, and all we did was put headers and a Comp Cams Composite upper intake on it. It was a speed density car (last year the 5.0 had SD) and it just RAN. Always pissed me off that thing had a little more kick than mine, lol. So naturally, I fixed that problem.
I recall the talk about those trucks, - Syclone and Typhoon, haven't seen them run that I can remember. Oh yea, LX and GT were the ones to beat. Had a thing, I only raced the cars that haven't voided their warranty yet lol. That said, always the same thing with both models, they get me on the start, stay with them for a bit, and begin to inch up slowly....just no enough road to catch them...if I could get the holeshot, I had a chance. That didn't happened unless they missed a gear lol. Stangs were little rockets from the factory and fun to drive. My brother had an LX, totally different feel vs the Iroc. The LX was just as quick as the GT from what I remember.

Those cars were just fast, the GN I went up against, he swore it was stock, walked right away from me and kept going, at least 5 car lengths...probably more lol.

The Syclon and Typhoons were AWD. They had the 4.3 with a Mits turbo, and were backed by a 4L60E and a Borg Warner T-Case. They were quick, and with very little, even quicker. I think they ran just under 300hp and 350 ft pounds.

When I put the intake on his car for him... (I used the term "we" previously, which consisted of me saying "Hand me that ________, Mike", it didn't want to idle at first. I messed with it, but it kept surging up and down. Finally, I kept pinching the MAP hose when the rpm's came up to their highest point, and would let it die. After 5 or 6 times, it started, and idled fine. Kind of weird, but it worked, lol.

What years were they produced ? seems like I heard about something about them about the same time Ford first introduced the Lightnings...early 90's maybe?. Anyway, the fast car phase was short for me, never replaced it. It was one the very last IROC's Chevy produced after the manufacturers sponsorship expired. Didn't really drive it that much, had little miles on it, planned on preserving as a collector car. Timing was more less perfect, and the opportunity to invest in one presented itself. Yea, that went hell and lost interest after it was stolen. Mourned it out, went a little crazier building, breaking and fixing off road trucks. That phase was long and expensive, into the ladder half of the 90's, it was a blast. Got civilized and lame sometime in 98.

I'm not sure if you bought yours new, at least you were able to hang onto to that rascal !

Brew 1991 for them both.

Ohio...the 87 GNX was a 12 sec factory car. Only 571 built. Nasty for that time.

Right, the Syclone was the Sonoma in, 91. The Typoon (SUV) spawned from that in 92 lol, and went to 93. Yea, that was around the same time as the Lightning (thought so), which went from 93-95. The Lightning then was heavier and didn't have the numbers those smaller GMC's had. The manufacturers/ designers had a thing for bad weather...yuh think! But yea, I can see why they stood out white.

Yea , I remembered why they most likley cut the Iroc in half there, it was behind the T-tops lol.
