Thinking
I gave him the procedure link earlier, but it's like he didn't learn anything from it other than threading test gauge into the hole and cranking the engine. He didn't go after understanding the readings or continuing the test, the info was right there, in the very same link provided. I bet he didn't read most of it. Pretty cool he found his old compression tester and acting as though he's familiar.....inevitably proves the opposite. If it's old, I guarantee you it was still virgin lol.
I don't know, he hasn't given up, still pining away... It that passion or a tumor ?
At this point I'm not sure. He is getting enough blow by to keep OPEC rolling but still wants to "fix" his engine. I'm not even sure if I'm getting the correct info. Guess I'm pretty much tuned out.
It truly is a mental thing- and not necessarily in a bad way- we grew up with wrench turning- it was a big part of our lives- my (our) dad didnt have the money to have someone else repair his machines, or throw parts at- he KNEW trouble shooting and repair.
And did his level best to show/ instruct me.
Later generations ( my children included) just dont seem to be interested until its crunch time, then they want instant gratification/wisdom, and generally that learning curve is long, gradual and bumpy!
I hope he picks it up, he definitely has staying power, if nothing else!!

You are probably right on the mark Bear. I do my own work to save money at the expense of my time and to be able to turn around and say "I did that". Lately though I feel like my free time is getting less and less.
My thing is... he doesn't learn from any of it. The ONLY thing he has gotten better at is not being a dick.... intentionally.
If his old man is an engine rebuilder, he can't be that great if he's on here asking us about used motors, compression variances, and rebuild kits.

And right? That's what I asked in his thread. If he's rebuilding engines he should've had this nipped in the bud from the get go instead of letting his son "tinker" with it
