The very first thing I hear is that the timing is way too far advanced. If it was retarded it would spin freely, but since your's in dragging, the timing is advance.

Check with the balancer at TDC and set the distributor to number 1. Then take the distributor and turn it counter clockwise a bit until it fires or rotates freely when turning over. This is how we did it in the field when we had problems with these. It worked rather well, way out in the woods. LOL

I love working on these old Big Blocks. Other than lifting these big turds. LOL.

Thanks! That is what I was thinking to do next was check the distributor at TDC. It just gets frustrating because I had it timed great before I did the oil pan so I am not sure what would have caused it to get so far off. But I do agree it sure sounds like something is off so I will check the easy things first. I am selling one of my spare dana60s in the morning so I will tinker with the distributor while I wait for him.

Ps this is why I am fixing this truck up myself and learning as I go. I like to be able to hear things and diagnose like you. I now can tell the difference between my timing being to advanced vs retarded; thanks!

The spit out of the carb is also an indicator of this.

These things used to thrive with Autolites, and hated Champions. I hate to say this, but Autolite is what I'd use in the BBF. NGK might make a good option, but NO NO NO Champion. LOL

Autolite Coppers is what I used to put in my Grandpa's old 460. It liked them.

Most Fords love Autolites, just not the Modular Motors. They seem to have an adversity to them, lol

Good luck Whitey on the furnace, Is that tomorrow that they are coming out? It shows that the modular board is a problem with these heaters in another video from Rheam, of all videos. It was weird to see the Rheam tech bitch about the boards going out. I don't think he is still employed by them, or shouldn't be LOLOLOLOL

LOL... yeah, I think it's the board for sure. The lady I spoke to on the phone also eluded to that. I could smell a burnt electronic smell when I opened it to reset it last. Also, the fan has squealed a couple of times on startup. Maybe the startup cap.... but I don't think that would shut the fuel off. Pretty sure it's two separate issues.

ACTAULLY... when it has done it was when I got it working the last two times.

Soooo.... it looks like I am doing timing chains, tensioners, and cam phasers on a 3V. Need to watch a lot of fordtechmakuloco videos, LOL.

Any tips? LOL

I'd rent the cam lock tool. Watch a video to see how it is used. It helps you not be off a tooth or 2. I haven't done a 3v but I don't see what would be different other than a phaser lock tool.
