Surge protection is now required by the NEC since 2020 in all new housing units and all service changes / updates.
I guess you convinced me to get one now.

Actually the gigabit switch was supposedly surge protected. Connected to a Belkin strip. Uses a tiny AC DC adapter...that's what blew. Not enough protection.

Hadn't heard that surge protection was code for residential now. Or defined that way rather...guess I found out why.

Is it POE? If it is those POE power supplies can be a little pricey.

I wanted to buy a whole house surge protector a couple of years ago. It's the kind that mounts behind the meter body. Power company told me no. Never did get a good reason why.

Very interesting. Wonder how we can get the info on this. When I left gen contracting, panels had breaker slots so fridges had their own breaker, bedrooms too, or maybe two. Bedrooms had $pecial arc breakers.

I'm having enough trouble finding all the indo I need to rig my 12k to my house. If I am gone, the wide needs things simplified. Local Pro shops don't sell parts off the shelf. Someone must tell them what to order.
