Thinking
busy night last night. got 2 calls at all but the same time, an MVA w/ injuries, and a gas odor investigation. got home and about an hour later, a tree fire, i was canceled while i was heading there
Sure wish I could of been home more at your age. However, it's possible to make up the diff w/grand kids if you live long enough.
Finally caught the truck in the act. Pulled over right away, was ready for it this time. Had a stethoscope made up for the occasion...1/4" nut driver with extensions.
It was the tensioner pulley bearing and the idler bearing on the same side. In which both test fine w/belt off. The tensioner bearing was a screamer though...PITA. Stethoscope paid off here....just had to be quick, real quick before it went silent again.
Replaced tensioner, both idlers, installed a green belt when I got back to the house tonight. At least that part went quick.
Usually it's easy to determine a bad bearing by removing the belt..I always have. Not this time, they tested good, no noise, no excessive wobble or tightness.

Is this fun for you ? Just curious why you are doing this...you hate being home that much ? A brand new vehicle in both bays that important ? Wife addicted to bugles, the couch and cartoons ? ALAYour happy I guess and there's no guilt present.

Had that happen with a brand new Gates pulley that I put on my parents old Taurus. That was the only thing that had changed.... so I just swapped it back, and the noise was gone. It spun good out of the box, and installed. But putting the belt on must've changed the side load just enough that it got squirrely on me.
So you actually like that stuff.
Well, if it included a siren, funny blinkin lights and I got to go fast on occasion, it might give me a feeling of importance. But if your one of those guys that stand in the middle of the road telling at people to slow the F down for literally no reason, your life will be short. Never got the impulse to do harm to someone, until seeing a fool like that in action. Totally bugs the shiii out me seeing that...specially with kids in the car or respectful people with you. To many A- holes in the field who THINK they have the right.
It would be cool if you yourself were with those stressful situations. You would be a good fit as you posses the correct demeanor. I hope that's a good experience for you. Folks in that field have a tendency to turn into to shiii. Not Fire and rescue, the other one w/the superiority complex and weak mind heavy...
Personally, would rather volunteer to chop wood for folks ....thus, providing heat during the winter months for them. No one around yuh can mess up that good deed.

But yeah, a bad Gates pulley bearing out of the box seems rare.
