Blame those that advertise that increase in fluid level is good for rear diff.
They advertise increased fluid capacity is a good thing when it really it's counterproductive if not damaging.
It is OK to have more capacity. It's the level that is going to get you into trouble with leaks, etc. When a higher capacity cover is sold, it sticks out further. I have one that for a GT500 that I am going to put on my 89. I actually got it for about 65 dollars before anyone knew these were going to blow up in price. This does not change fluid capacity, but will help with keeping it cooler.
Tonight I went out to the garage for about an hour.... only intended to take the seats out, then resume in the morning. Well, I had some music on, and got in my "zone" and here it sits. I did a time lapse on it with the GoPro... I wish it was a little brighter, but it turned out decent. Here's a screenshot... it's not a video link.
I think you're reading a little further into it than any of our intentions. You haven't been here nearly as long as many of us - we all give each other a razzing when we do something ill advised.
You are exactly right. And he has been here no time at all. It took me a while. I'm not thete, yet, and am years ahead of him, and with more wrenching background. Y'all are leagues past me in SO much. So, imagine newbies to this stuff. I've been getting your help for 4 years, and wrenched before that. But I have so much to learn about tenth gen, that it's embarassing to be called a Sr Member. New guys think I know stuff. They ask me privately to avoid embarassment. We all make a rare goof, but new guys specialize in it sometimes. We all do not have a marine's thick skin. They need time to build that up. Like I'm a Sr in high school, they are Freshmen, and you are well into college. Imagine the gap from you to some of them. That's all. Over beer in a garage we have tone of voice and grins and such. The written work can be kinda harsh. We forget that.
I am too lazy to see if I mentioned it above, but I found a classic tear in the floor pan on The Eight Nine. Years ago my Dad fixed the drivers side, but I fixed the passenger side today. That is a big flaw of these cars... and the reason so many aftermarket companies started adding a cross brace to their subframe connectors. Anyway... I know, I'm not a good welder.
Oh... that is POR15 on it here. I'll prime and paint as soon as it's ready.
