I want to 4.0 swap so bad. It is an 89 with the 2.9 at present. The last trans rebuild didn't last long as I have no OD and only half of 3rd gear so I picked up a 4.0 a4ld with the upgraded planetary set but I have no concrete slab or shed to swap it in so I've been slacking. I did throw on some explorer springs and coils in there to help the sag out so it does ride about 2 inches higher all around.

If you are going to do a swap. Back when those things were far newer, there were 302 swap kits available based off Ranger kits. I remember you would need a 2" (?) body lift to clear the trans and transfer case.
Those may still be available.

Edit, Nevermind on V8 kits, they are still out these but very intense on 4x4

Agreed. That most likley has to do with Brad Wright being writer and producer. He did The Expanse, Stargate (that went for 10 seasons) and Travelers as well. Top notch stuff from him....the best in smart high-tech sci-fi for sure.

I guess Amazon pulled out of it....which is surprising.

This was the dashcam video from the other night.

The A4LD probably has some 4R55E internals then?

Those may still be available. A lot of it is based off using 5.0 Explorer stuffs.

I have a really good friend that does 5.0 swaps on Rangers, B2's, and Explorer Sport Trac's. If any of you are interested, I can get you his info - he makes kits to do the swap. Also, he has all of the info to do PCM pin swaps to use the existing wiring harness on Sport Tracs.

This site is starting to act wonky on me again. I've tried over and over to get that last sentence to post.... but it won't. If I click EDIT, it is still there in the text box. However, when I hit save - it's gone again.

It has a little surface rust on the frame but that's it. It was just that dirty and in the shade it wasn't an issue. As soon as I got it in the sunshine I couldn't see out so I had to wipe enough of the windshield off to see out. Lol

The upgraded a4ld very well might have some 4r55e internals but I think it has been beefed up significantly.

Before I do any upgrades power wise I need to upgrade the running gear so I don't leave myself stranded. Lol

I d35/narrowed d44 up front and 8.8 out back with a c4 trans might would fit the bill but for now I just want it up and running and dependable again. The little 2.9 has no blowby with the oil cap off so maybe it has some life left in it.

The biggest downfall of the Cologne 2.9/4.0 engines are collapsed lifters. Other than that, those damn things are bulletproof.
