Well... it wasn't a pretty job, lol. It's pretty thin metal, and had about a 1/4 gap of missing material in one place. It's solid though, and that's what matters, LOL. I'll come up with something at some point. Right now I just need the seats to be mounted in the holes Ford intended.
If the metal is good, you should have the ability to fill the gap. Even with thin gauge...16 gauge I expect, 18 is body metal. Yea,you have to pulse weld it, you know, on and off. Sort of like spot welding but you off the trigger a little quicker with that thinner stuff. Otherwise that gap will grow lol. Always go against the weld when bridging, you probably know that already.
At least you made you work for now.
Oh yea, and the largest problem with bridging that thin stuff is starting point. The metal has to be near 100% or it's next to impossible to get started. Cleaning the corrosion off the top usually won't work. You can clean off the paint and have success, but corrosion....good luck. That stuff digs in and destroys your chances of proper penetration at bridge start.. It's not on you, it's just next to possible w/MIG...the molecular is compromised once heated.....a losing battle for sure.
Yep... lots of little "taps" with the wire, for lack of a better word. This welder is a pretty decent unit for the money, BTW. I really like the upgraded ground clamp.

Yea, you have that good clamp now. That was a must have upgrade.
Yea like 1 second taps lol.
Spot welding is a full 2 seconds. Sounds amateur, but that 2 second count worked for me when I first started lol.
Still an amateur it tho, - that stuff never came easy. I still can't see shiii when I'm welding. A little more educated now...but yea, blind as a bat when welding. I can get around that disability with marginal results, - but unable to see what you doing sucks. It would be cake if I could see the puddle or a soap stone line. I usually off set a soap stone line to sort of stay on line. I'll usually see the line in glimpses....not always. Haven't found anything else that helps.

Dude, me too! I have a pretty decent helmet too, and I still can't see anything but the glow of the weld, LOL.

That's awesome!! My parents just got their first grandson. Maybe you'll get the same luck!
I use to think it was the helmet, I don't think so anymore. I have a mediocre Hobart helmet and a Hobart/Miller 140 handler machine. Sorry, only pic I have handy, -
But yea, attempting to maintain 10* and proper stick- out blind is a challenge in a half. I'm good to go for the first 2 inches but after that , head for the hills. So I have to stop and start again often, only way for me. Still, a welder is so damn handy. Usually need it for the little stuff anyway.

I have two Daughters, - two Grandsons thus far, 7 and 1 of age. They are spoiled that's for sure, but lots of fun lol. I recall wanting a baseball team when I was younger. That changed after having two lol.
Missed out on a lot with my kids when I was younger. Had one of those dark to dark careers 9 months out of the year back then, with a lot of 7 day work weeks. I got 3 good months in annually, but yea, missed out on a bunch. Making up for that now with them and my grand children. Now I just have to stay healthy for as long as possible.

Back in ~1990 I was an electrician (with card) doing construction work.
We often worked at a place call Reynolds Metals in Chester (it was three miles form my home at the time).
They offered me a job as a maint. electrician. I took it as long as I wasn't 2nd shift for too long. They said they could work with that.
I was third shift for a couple months. Great job. Production was usually down and nobody was yelling at us.
I was asked to cover for someone on second shift for a couple weeks. that turned into months. I never saw my kids. My off days were during the week as I was low on seniority list.
I now hated my great job. That place even had fully paid family health insurance. Profit sharing was paid in cash not into a retirement plan.
I hated second shift. I called everyone I know and someone gave me a lead on a company that repaired industrial cranes. I quit and went to crane place just so I could get home at night. It was less $ too.
Still the best move I made as I used that to get into a place that was much better and ... It's so great I've been here for a couple decades and hopefully will retire from here. Pay is great and been promoted many times. No longer work with tools.
Also, My wife thinks something is wrong with me because I eat M&Ms by color. Like all brown ones then red, etc. Is that psycho?
One more thing, what is opinion on Fournoy welders? Worth the extra $ ? I have an ancient Century and an going to need a new on soon.
