Just got fed up with my POS Linksys router randomly disconnecting, and I put in my new TP Link, finally. I am getting 41 Mbps now, when I was getting 30 Mbps. I pay for 25 down, 5 up, LOL.

This thing is pretty bad azz and is packed with a lot of features for the price - especially with it also being a business class unit.

Like this feature. This will be great for shutting down the internet access of my kids devices in the middle of the night.

Not trying to beat this to death.... but I tried the Xfinity speed test and went even faster. So I thought maybe they raised my speed on my account. Nope.... needless to say, I am very happy. This is also with my kids streaming Amazon music, and watching their stupid Youtube channels.

I just ran speedtest on my puter and got these 3 readings. 1st just with my provider. 2nd is with VPN thru Seattle, and the 3rd is with a VPN thru Vancouver BC. The Ping times are long tonight though.

I don't even have what GCI calls RED. It is a 1GB speed, but the lines where I'm at are older so they won't go over 700 or so they say. I may swap to it, because it now the same price as what I have and so so much faster, and UNlimited.

Crap! I'm lucky to hit 20Mbps down and 650K up out here with my CenturyLink DSL. I shudder to think what a VPN would do to my speeds (though I do still think about getting one).

I'm about ready to pull the trigger on a new router myself. This one is dropping down to 500K-1.2M for no reason. Reboot it, and it goes back to normal. My Google speaker lost connection earlier, too. That's a new one.

Linksys hasn't been the same since Cisco sold them. Isn't that what your old router is too?

I had problems with CL too... absolute junk DSL where I live now. My old house it was pretty decent.

The existing router is an Asus RT-AC66U. I'm considering the RT-AC68U as a replacement, but at 5 years old, it's getting a little long in the tooth. On the other hand I don't need the latest and greatest tech for watching Netflix, surfing, and telling Google to turn off the lights. I've also been looking at some of the mesh systems that are beginning to be more affordable. Not sure yet what I want to do.

My choices here are DSL, point-to-point wireless, or satellite. DSL wins for the moment.

I have gigabit service available, but they want waaaay too much for it. I'm getting by just fine on what I have for right now.

I've had some issues getting my WD Mycloud to cooperate after the router changes, even though I reserved the IP addy.... but after 2 reboots, I think it's OK. I've been looking at the Synology NAS stuff, and I'm pretty close to pulling the trigger on their 2 bay unit.

Just pulled the trigger.... I think my WD Mycloud is starting to fail, so I just ordered the 2 bay Synology DS218J NAS with DLNA/UPnP, and got one WD Red 4TB HD for now. Got them both for 122 dollars after gift cards, etc.
