I have room for 4 more breakers, one of which will be used by doing this correctly...... two breakers I want for a welder though. I think it is 14 gauge. I am using 12 for what I am doing though.

Yeah.... 14 gauge @ 50 amps would have been really swell.

I think 14 is supposed to be no more than 15 amps - but it has been 26 years since my wiring class, LOL. Could be wrong.

You're right. 12 Ga=20 Amps, 14 Ga=15 Amps. That 50 was a single-phase breaker, eh? Don't be tempted to use that with another one for your welder circuit. I believe code requires a double breaker with the toggles tied together for a 220 VAC circuit.

Yeah, I think my welder calls for a double pole 30 amp and needs 10/3 as I recall. I swapped the 50 for a 20 until I know what the hell is going on. Looks like one of the wires is 12 and the other is 14. I will dig deeper on the gauge when I shut the whole panel off. I have a few things I need to do in there.

Then I glued this thing down the crack and clamped it.

Right after I took that pic above, I went and added two more clamps.... for good measure. Ummmm.... yes, that silver one is from my ball joint press.

I would have been less concerned about fixing it immediately, and more concerned with determining how it got that way in the first place, *then* fixing it so it can't happen again.

EDIT: I dunno if that short 2x4 spans enough distance. ... And how's it OK that it's hanging down from the joist like that? I thought you were rocking the ceiling? Regardless, I probably would've put it in the web, and glued & screwed it to the plywood & the bottom piece of the "beam."

It appears to me that something was hung there, and then it hit from the side, which ultimately broke it. The previous owner of the home had an indoor (and outdoor) pitching pen when we looked at the house - and where this is at is where the pitching "pen" was located. I don't think there is anything wrong at all structurally..... I just want to make sure it does not continue before I bury it.

That's not glued in there. That is just to maintain a flat edge for support... I was making a giant clamp out of it, so to speak. Yeah - that 2X4 is not there to stay.

Gotcha and gotcha. Sounds like it was mainly cosmetic, then. Cool.

While I'm picking apart your work...
Are those vertical "decenders" on the next joist toe-nailed? Woould it be stronger/better to attach longer ones vertically to the side of that joist, instead, nailed/screwed top and bottom?

Yes, I am going to go across the bottom of that. I just haven't got to that part yet.

That part is going to be a sticky situation... I need to drop that low enough to clear the duct work, but high enough that the basement door doesn't hit it. Also have to make sure I have enough clearance for the laundry room door when it is hung.

I just read your question again... no... not toe nailed. They are screwed in from the top with 3.5 inch screws.

So sisters escape is acting up, ac only out of the defrost vents. I read it's a vacuum problem. Cut off some bad sections under the hood and reconnected the vacuum lines. Still didn't help so behind the glove box I noticed this black line is "unplugged". The white is connected, the other lines are connected on the driver side. So the black line is my problem.... does it connect into the hole I have circled? If so am I missing a piece of hose on the other side of the connector? It won't stay pushed in.
