Id be willing to bet the steel tube going into your heater core hose has a crack, happened to mine and the pressure made it spray on the firewall, intake gaskets won't hurt anyway as they are cheap. Keep in mind you can buy a new one of these tubes but they get pressed in.

that makes sense since the last time I really drove it a bit farther, when I got home it was leaking pretty badly but today even after the thermostat opened the pool of coolant just got a tad bigger

Well, it's something to do with that pipe. It could be the o-ring in the pipe where it goes in behind the pump. It could also be leaking back by the heater core and flowing down the tube, and into that valley. There is a fitting on the heater core hoses that can start to leak. I would look up on those and see if you see any evidence of leakage. Do you have an inspection camera by chance? I have the one in the link below, and it has been very handy in helping me get a visual on areas you can't get to with your eyes. I've used it on cars, plumbing, fishing wires through walls.... it's easily worth what I paid for it. Anyway, just an idea.

I don’t have one of those, but thanks to the power of the internet I’ll have one tomorrow lol.

so just a wild guess, I’m still going to have to remove the intake manifold to deal with this?

I got the spark plugs already and the coils. I also got new injector o-ring seals since, I guess, those have to be removed when I take the intake ?

so I’ll just need a gasket kit for the manifold and whatever it takes to fix either the rubber hose or the metal tube, provided that is the issue?

Thank you again!

If it winds up being the heater hose fitting, then no... the intake can stay, as that is back by the firewall. But if it is about anything else with that pipe, then yes.... intake has to come off. Should the intake need to come off, I would also plan your budget on replacing that tube, but you might get away with just the o-ring.

EDIT: Forgot about the injector question. When I've done an intake, I was replacing the intake all together.... but I want to say that no, the injectors do not need to be removed to remove the lower intake. All I think I did was disconnect the fuel line. If you do need to remove the injectors, I recommend using Vaseline to install the o-ring and also again to help seat the injector. Vaseline works like magic for that.

BTW, what coils did you end up with?

Indeed! I think the Fel-Pro kit my neighbor last bought had those in it.... but maybe she bought it separate. Seems like it came in a box that was in the main box, but I can't recall for certain.
