Your close! Actually it's right after the shift into OD. Yea, that's the load that picks on weak coils.

Hold at the weak point or while it's misfiring and the misfire monitors count will increase. There's two counts, under 1000 rpms and over.

They're called low grade misfires. I've heard you can pick these up in real-time during the drive cycle with your phone and the torque pro app.

so I’ll keep on driving it like you recommend and I’ll try this trick to see if I can get it to “cough” lol.

updates to come.

edit: my wife came down with a rare spine disease so I’m trying to save money but I’m going to start buying (or trying at least) to buy a couple Motorcraft coils every paycheck and just replace them all and be done with it. Plugs too.
Don't forget about pricing the Denso coils. As Whitegt pointed out , Motorcraft coils are Denso coils. They just sell under a different name. RA sells both.

Also, if your intake is composite, they can crack with age. But other than that....

Ok, changing gears I (sort of) found the coolant leak. I noticed it today after I parked it. It wasn’t pouring out but it was dripping pretty badly. I took a video, I’ll post it soon. It looks like it’s coming from above the starter. Funny enough, I noticed some dried up looking coolant in the same spot when I bought the truck. Almost as if it was a tiny leak back then.

funny thing is, I looked in the valley behind the alternator and from what I saw it was dry. At least the part I saw right behind where the alternator sits.

I found my answer. 😁 I love killing two birds with one stone. Got my misfire and my coolant leak problem answered.

looks like I’ll be removing the intake manifold. I’m going to replace all of the coil packs and plugs while it’s apart.

anyone have any other recommendations on what I should service while I’m up in this thing?

I don't know why you would be removing the intake, but ok. Good Luck

The video was good and the guy seemed to know what he was doing. But he shows a leak on the inside and yours is on the outside. Take some pictures of what you find.

oh jeez - do more research before getting up in that thing - if the coolant is running down the firewall i don't see how it could get there from the intake gasket

check your heater core hose connections

ok gents, you guys are right, as always, I shouldn’t assume.

I’m in front of this bad boy right now. It’s still warming up but the valley is 90% dry. The only place I see a small pool of coolant is towards the rear passenger side right underneath the black hose (in pic). The heater core lines seems dry as can be. Could it just be a crack in that black hose?

edit: here is a quick video too

i can't tell what i'm looking at from that quick video - it might help to do a wide angle either at the beginning or ending of the video to be able to get a bearing on what your trying to show
