Default Really bummed, another problem. Stutter...

I really love this but it’s been nothing but problems since I got this. I don’t mind fixing things, in fact it gives me projects to do. But this one has me a tad worried.

today, we left the house and I noticed a tiny stutter when starting off from a dead stop. It’s never done that before.

then, I noticed when I pressed the gas pedal and it shifted it would stutter a little bit. This went on for about a mile or two. So I stepped on the gas again to see if I could replicate it and it actually stutter pretty bad. I immediately took my foot off the gas, turned around, and went home.

other than the two described events, it shifts like it always did. Like it’s brand new. Like better than my new car.

I checked all the fluids. They all look great and are topped off.

I’m really sorta bummed. Any ideas on where to start? There is no check engine light on.

Sounds like you shouldn't be messing around with a 18 year old truck. You know , since it's bumming you out all the time.

Purchasing a used vehicle will usually require going through it first. Your expecting too much imo.

Plugs and coils...pretty much normal maintenance stuff with these trucks. So what name brands did you use ?

BTW, have you thought about leasing a KIA or something ? Might be a better option for yuh.

Not too sure what you're expecting out of a 20 year old truck. You've got 3 or 4 threads on here about how it's pulled a fast one on you.

why shouldn’t I be messing with it?

I was unclear in my post. I’m sorry. I love the thing. I like working on it. It’s just kinda sucks that I get it and all of a sudden it’s having issues. Ya know? 😁 especially since the guy I bought it from had no problems at all with it.

as far as the coils and plugs, they were changed 30,000 miles ago according to the previous owner. I’m not sure what brand was used.

the vehicle has 230,000 miles.

im starting all of these threads because I want to fix my truck 😁. That’s what this forum is for, right? 🤷🏼‍♂️😁

how do I go about finding out if it’s a plug or coil? Will there be a code if there is no check engine light?

if they were cheap plugs and coils, throw all of them out and get motorcraft ones, and you need to find a scan tool that can measure mode 6 data

Ok. I’m assuming I’ll be able to tell by looking at them if they are Motorcraft? Some sort of Motorcraft badging?

Mode 6 scan tool. Got it! Thank you!!!

You guys are right, I should expect some bumps from a 20 year old vehicle and I do, it just sorta sucks having them start only 1500 miles after I get it lol.

that’s what this place is for, right? to ask for help fixing stuff? 🤷🏼‍♂️

I don’t think it pulled a fast one. It didn’t have a single leak when I got it and I know the previous owner followed the maintainable schedule to a T.

that’s why it’s a tad frustrating it started giving me some hiccups. That’s all. I’m down to fix it. Like I said I love the thing. I want to make it perfect. I replaced a couple small interior parts. Couple of other things.

I just like to have my stuff perfect or as close as I can get.

but you’re right, I definitely should expect stuff like this. But I’m also going to fix it. 😁

thank you again for your help in my radiator thread. 👍

FYI, if you get new coils you can get denso from rock auto. They are ford certified. Alot cheaper
