Yes the block was decked. Snadpaper or emory cloth would hinder sealing. There is a specific surface finish is required. Now that he is using Cometics its even more important that the block was decked.. Felpro's will seal with a very poor surface finish. The Cometics require a lot smoother and better overall finish to seal.

Understandable, makes perfect sense pertaining the type of gaskets used and most likley per manufacturers instruction. Yea thanks for the reply as I didn't expect one from the other user questioned, given past history. I don't mind learning from someone willing to share vs hiding for whatever reason lol.

Anyway, yea I wasn't sure his build was decked. The emery, and there are grades of are mainly used for a silicon ring type gasket prep as this is what aids sealing when compressed properly (stages). Regardless, I'm sure I don't need to bore anyone with further elaboration lol.

I agree, and I hope it was and chamfered properly as well. The entire thought behind, - I would hate to see it happen again.

They are going to hold this time. Just going off a feeling. A good one!

I looked back, couldn't locate a leakage pic or one in that regard...did you remember to post it?

Curious, how close was the chamfer in relation to the gasket @ #5. Did you notice a difference between the Felpro bore openning and Cometic opening by any chance, - specifically on the valley side at the chamfer (#5) ?

So here's where mine is sitting right now. Down to just the dirty details to getting it to run.

Needs-
-fuel lines
-wiring of the ignition system
-installing gauges
-wire the alternator and finish the assembling the front light harness
-paint and install my fender aprons, core support, fenders and grille
-install and fill radiator
-prime it and it should be ready to make some very nasty noise.

Accessories and fan are actually on it now also, just not in this pic

Yup, got the heads off, new gaskets on, heads back on, torqued down new bolts, yeah and here's where it's at. Gonna throw covers on and lower intake then pump air through the coolant lines and see if it holds.

Great! How much air pressure are you going to use in determining ? Curious.

I just take the little attachment hooked to my compressor and slightly squeeze so however much that is lol

It doesn't need a ton of pressure to show a leak though.

You outta get a cooling system tester. You can rent it. Fill the system with straight water. It would be a lot easier to find.

Well, sounds simple enough lol. I know you run it up to 15 lbs w/coolant present for leak down. I believe coolant leak-down is for about an hour ? Yea it isn't much like you said..but that's liquid pressure vs air pressure. I know there's a difference just wasn't sure how they vary.

For air pressure I'd probably use a my paint gun regulator, right there at the end of the hose @ about idunno 10 lbs maybe..That should be enough I expect.
