2011+ 55-60mph 5.0 Shuddering and EcoBoost Engine Miss/Loss of Power - Possible Fixes
I had mine reflashed yesterday and have 150 miles of driving since. The engine noises and surging are gone, Yeah!!!
Drove an employee to work this morning and we both felt the trans shudder, Darn!
80% better but I think once the ecoboost guys on this thread get the fix, they too will agree, we will all share the same vague driveline shudder. Must be the torque converter. I had an import truck with 140k and a failing torque converter. The problems where pronounced on slight inclines as the lock-up function would drop out and come back under load. If I turned off overdrive (Torque converter lock) the problem would go away. Same is true with the F150 in tow mode. Same identical feel. It is the Torque converter. Push the tow mode button and drive around for a while. No shudder. When the torque converter isn't trying to lock, there is no slipping. Turn tow mode off and let the slipping/shuddering begin!
At least my new truck is tolerable again.

Mine is reflashed but I haven't driven much yet. Shudder is still there but not as bad as it was just like everyone has reported. My combined mileage since I picked up the truck is 15.6 mpg. I too am hoping that this increases. Time will tell if it's really any better or not. My truck hasn't ever shown any DTC's. The way I understand the TSB is IF it threw the certain code listed then replacement of the left side cat is in order. Two mechanics at my dealer put the reflash in their trucks yesterday and one of the two anyway is not happy with his at all and thinks that it made it worse. Good luck all.
I think I've had the shudder happen to me once maybe twice, so I'm going to go ahead and get this TSB done...made my appointment for Saturday. At least I'll had the gear indicator on my dash without having to hit the button on the shifter. As soon as its done I'll be heading back to that same hill I believe I had the shudder and see how it responds.

Before ordering those plugs I'd check for an engine code.

Anyone changed their plugs yet?
Wonder if they are easier than previous models?
My dealer drove it before and after. I was told that i was one of the first ones to get this done at my dealer, im sure they were curious to compare before and after too.
Has anyone put straight pipes on their ecoboost that has the shudder. The straight pipes would take a lot of pressure off the turbos and maybe I'm thinking not really using the waste gate to dump excess turbo pressure from the exhaust.
