The Ultimate MPG thread.
My 2013 F-150 reg cab 8' bed 2X4 I bought used in 2015 has gotten 16.5 around town on lousy California gas, and 23 out of state on the highway at 65mph. 19 at a little less than 75.
3.7 V6 in a basic no frills (roll up windows, et al) truck.
I'm not sure my '05 Ranger 4 banger ever got too much better.
I'm happy.

Specs in sig, but my tire is 1.1" taller than stock @ 31.7". Purchased a Superchips FlashCal and reset the speedo to a 31.75" tire (unit takes .25" increments).
Over a 100-mile stretch heading home from a short trip, holding the truck to 70 MPH in 6th @ 1700 rpm netted an actual 22.5 mpg (dash said 24.0) and that leg included a climb and descent of equal elevation. Only other engine airflow mod is a 3" in/out Series 70 Flowmaster "big block" 3-chamber in place of the rear-most factory muffler. Too, had just added a cheap, folding vinyl tonneau.

It's pretty sensitive to HOW I drive it, as far as gas mileage goes. If I drive "economy" style (i.e. there's no traffic up my ***) it's satisfactory for a full size pickup. If I don't pay attention the mileage around town really suffers.
Going to the 245 series tires didn't seem to change speedo or gas mileage.
I discovered my Rotten Robbie local gas station doesn't go below E87 gas, and no ethanol. Valero goes to E85 and ethanol. I've been blending and didn't even realize it.
Still gets better mileage as soon as I get out of California and fill up with better gas that isn't "oxygenated" (like a Mcdonalds milkshake).

I got about 18.5 mpg from Salt Lake City to Dayton, OH. (~1650mi) running 75+ mph most of the way.
Coming back, pulling a 5000# travel trailer and making a couple detours (~1820mi) running at 65+ mph, I got 8.9mpg.

Has anyone noticed or watched the instantaneous mph on the dash as your driving. If I'm going 55mph with cruise and on flat ground I getting anywhere from 33-45mpg..is this right? I thought a test would be, fill up and drive 55mph with cruise and pull off road and fill up to ck? My dash average says 22.5mpg, 3.5L.

And my truck's avg. mpg dash readouts over any distance are typically 1.5 mpg optimistic. As I noted earlier somewhere in this thread, a 100-mile leg netted 24.0 avg according to the dash readout but on paper it was actually 22.5. My speedometer has been recalibrated for my current tire, so my paper figure is as accurate as it can be (unless the PCM were to accept Revs Per Mile input, then it might be even more accurate). I would like to measure my speed with a GPS unit and verify the current calibration.
