The Ultimate MPG thread.
I have a 1993 F150 XLT SuperCab with the 5.8L and the Automatic Transmission with O/D. I get around 13 in the city. Haven't really had the chance to do any highway trips yet, but these are decent numbers coming from the older 5.8L. Oh, and I have 3.08 gears...
2012 Ecoboost with 10,000 miles on it. Super crew, 6.5' bed, and 3.73 gears, and 4wd. Last night I drove 200 miles through hilly terrain on highway and interstate. It was about 50 degrees out. I averaged 20.5 mpg going 65-70 mph.
Picked up my 2013 F150 SCREW Ecoboost X4 last week and drove it from west slope of Sierra Nevadas (3000') over the summit to Carson Valley, Nev. Summit was approx 7700 feet. I put 240 miles on the trip with 18.2 mpg. I think this is pretty good for a new truck going over a pretty high mountain.
Went on a trip to Jacksonville about a week ago, and got almost 16 MPG on the highway. Normal mileage for me is about 14 in the city. I really expected more from a highway trip, but at least I get decent mileage in the city. (I have the 5.8. Anything above 11 is considered 'abnormal.')
For the past few hundred miles, I have used mid-grade gasoline. For less than a 3 pct increase in price, I have seen a 12 pct increase in MPG. Well worth it. I drive a 2013 platinum with Eco-boost engine and max tow package.
I use Mid-Grade as well. I learned my lesson about 7 years ago, when I decided to just "try it out" in my Bronco II. Turned out, not only did it run smoother, but its mileage increased by about 2. It got about 15 MPG before, and was then consecutively getting 17+ after the switch. Have been using Mid-Grade in all my vehicles since.
Yes. Actually, a lot of our Shell gas stations around here call 89 "Mid-Grade." And 93 is "Premium." I've heard some gas stations still sell 91. Is that true? I haven't seen one of those for a long time. Everything here is either 87, 89, or 93, unless you're buying race fuel.
I see so many variations in offerings for octane up here. I've seen anywhere from 85 to 93. Some lower grades will be pure gas, with the mid grade having 10% ethanol, some all grades having E10, and some having options of E20, E40, and E85.
I always do either 87 or 89, and try to avoid ethanol, as it does decrease your millage.
On another note, I averaged 25 mpg for a 50 mile portion of my drive today. With the other 150 miles added in, my total average was 20 mpg.

I have the 2013 F150 4x4 with the V8 5.0. I LOVE THIS TRUCK!!!
From New Orleans to Almost Natchez, MS I got 22.1 MPG. 70-75 on Interstate, and 65 on backroads.

From Jackson, MS to New Orleans I got 21.2 MPG with a 75MPH average. I can't believe a full size, 4x4 truck can get this kind of MPG. South of Jackson is pretty hilly too.

Before this truck I had a 2004 GMC Denali with a 6.0 and was getting 12MPG. To almost double that MPG with a full size 4x4, I am completly blown away. Thanks, Ford! I never thought I would own anything other than a GM, but I got bored with their interior and tech features and decided to get the Ford, best decision ever. If you have any reservations about this truck, dont, I can't think of anything I dont like about it other than a few features I wish the XLT doesn't have (HomeLink, and Center console). Other than that, this truck is a BEAST! I hear folks talking about the EcoBoost, and that was never really on the table for me, but after seeing the MPG this gets, other than 5 less HP, and little less torque (I will never pull 10K pounds), I would rather have a solid V8 than a hopped up V6. Although I love the idea, and efficiency that those trucks get. They need an EcoBoost V8.
Have a good one!
