I had a Jasper in a 1990 f150; always used oil.

Something is a bit 'off' with my new motor...it seems to have a fluttery sound at low rps under a load, almost like a miss...sounds a bit like a kelicopter from a distance...a choppy/fluttery sound rather than a smooth/consistent sound from the motor. Yet no engine light...when i am getting my best 10.6 mpg, i am primarily on highway keeping my speed closer to 60-65. 30 gal tank...less than 300 miles per tank, fill up twice a week = a mortgage payment😥

what’s up guys I’m not sure if this is in the wrong section but I wanted to know if anyone is getting this problem. I have my 2013 f-150 ecoboost. I’m getting 12.5 mpg on the expressway. My tire size is 275/70/18 and my mileage is at 102,000. I’ve kept up with the maintenance and recently just cleaned the map sensors and throttle body and way to pick up that mileage?

I have an '04 Lariat with the 5.4 engine. Had a new (Ford) engine and a (used, 70,000miles) trans put in back in November by my local dealer. It has just about 8000 miles on it now and (according to the dash display) I'm averaging 16.5 - 17mpg around town, but on the Interstate I get between 22 & 23mpg. I have double checked the trucks computer with a pocket calculator and it seems to be spot on.

Yes I'm old (65) and even though I have no problem running 8 - 10mph OVER the posted speed limits, I just dont feel the need to get there in the first mile! So yeah I do have a rather soft touch on the accelerator.

Guys, I am a newbie making my first post. I drove my 2015 F-150 2.7 ecoboost for three years and averaged 20.1 MPG on 87 octane.

I needed new tires at 36K miles and took the opportunity to swap out my original 18” wheels for new original Ford 20” wheels and tires.

MPG dropped over the past three weeks to 17.9 MPG.

So, I assume my MPG and speedometer are now innacurate because the wheel size has changed.

Thoughts?

If you switched to another pair of OEM wheels/tires, the MPG drop is probably due to the added weight of the larger wheels. Assuming that you have wheels from a 4x4, your OEM tire size would have been 275/65R18, and you upgraded to 275/55R20. The difference in diameter is negligible and wouldn't cause any noticeable speedometer inaccuracy. There's only a 3 revolution difference between those 2 sizes over 1 mile.

Yes, the added weight of the 20" wheel would be the difference, tire size would be negligible as there is very little difference in size or weight. But the OEM 20" wheels are a bit heavier than the 18" wheel and half an inch wider as well

I will tell you that when I went from a 17" to an 18" tire on my F150 my speedometer now was 4-5 mph off. When the speedometer was reading 70 I was actually going 75 mph.
Now what happens to your mpg when you are above 70 mph in a 2.7 ecoboost?

My 2017 5.0 XLT Screw LWB came with the 18" Wranglers. It was a lease return 3 months back with low miles (now 15,000)
We did a road trip today from the Kelowna BC area over to Calgary, AB..about 738 miles. Did a re set on the Mpg reader in Armstrong BC where I put in about 19 gallons.."Range" said 419 miles at that point..after the 6-7 hour drive thru the Rockies, arrived in Calgary reading 22.6 mpg
That said, about 3 hours of the trip was in"National Park where the speed limit was 90 kmh/ 55 mph...prob averaged 60 mph for the 3 hrs and 65 for the other three.
After the 14-15 mpg... if I was careful..on the old '07 5.4 supercrew..Im I really happy with the 22.6 😆
a 50% improvement..yes! Anything 20 or up is good.

On a trip to FL from NY, my '17 Silverado DCSB Z71 pulled 23 mpg at 75, 3.42s. A few months later, my '14 Ram 1500 CCSB Laramie did 22 mpg with 3.92s at the same speed. Imagine my suprise when my first trip with my '04 F150 FX4 CCSB (5.4) was in the 14s at the same speed (and sometimes higher). After modifying my driving, I've been able to get 14.5 with a 3k lb payload & trailer combo keeping it under 72, and was able to eek out 17.5 with cruise set to 70 (on my 185 mile work commutes, I can't bring myself to travel any slower). Thing runs like a top though, and the $30k saved between this truck and the Ram (which I loved, except for its vibrations and payments, full disclosure) will buy a lot of fuel.
