No, it's really not. Unless you know of a pushbutton 7P5T momentary switch that can handle upwards of 30A per pole.

You clearly don't comprehend the conceptual differences. That's not the same as there NOT being any differences. Yes, there are several.

Anyone with a hunk of metal can walk up to my old Bronco, and either make it fit the keyhole & drive away, or break the key cylinder out/off & drive away. Or they can simply bypass (hotwire) the ignition switch & drive away.

None of those will work on a pushbutton vehicle. Someone with a finger can't walk up, push the button, & drive away. Try to conceive that...

So you're going to stop buying modern vehicles, and just walk?

Sometimes literally. I'm old but I don't believe how it used to be done is better. Mostly it's just someone who can't adapt.
Simple solution....Don't wear skinny jeans and dragging a key out of your pocket will be much easier.

I am somewhat amused. Many folks buy trucks take them home and change the wheels and tires. Many times to similar versions as factory options. Put on cat back exhaust systems, engine filtering, change the audio to something else. Comments run the gamut from "neat, where did you get those, I like those, and why didn't I think of that.

I suggest maybe I would like to add push-button start and you would think I insulted the Pope.

And I still believe that all vehicles are built with all the electronics built in. With much of it disabled to sell the lower trim models. By disabled I mean the switches and some other hardware that can be easily added is missing in the lower trims. It simply makes no economic sense to do otherwise. To do so would require wire harnesses for each trim. A crippled computer for the lower trims. Two or three different key fobs, etc etc. To buy or build several key fobs is ludicrous. One with all functions cost no more to build than one with fewer functions. Just change the outer plastic case. And yes I know this beyond any doubt because I know how they are made and what they look like inside. Just like some can look at a tire and see that it would be better than another for mud...or rock crawling or whatever. There are some "medical" devices called PEMF devices that cost over $300.00 on Amazon. I can literally make one just as nice and exactly the same electronically for $30.00

For those folks who don't really have any answers for questions but always want proof. You don't have any proof I'm wrong. To generate proof I would have to have access to Fords inside engineering. But I'm logical, I think, and I know some about how systems are built. No paper on the wall.

The difference in the electronics between the low trims and the very high trims is small. The difference in electronics in price is a lot. I have no problem with that. And not to start another argument, but the difference in actual cost between cloth and leather seats is not nearly as great as the retail cost of leather vs. cloth seats. Some cloth seats are even harder to sew. And yes I can look at a seam and tell which one is harder to sew. Many people can. My mom could at 99 years old. She did not do any commercial sewing.

That isn't what you did, at all. Just a snippet from the first post (a post in which you did not even mention that you wanted it or would like to add it...the next step here seems obvious, push button start is super simple and cheap to retrofit, and you want it, so, go do it)

Furthermore, any vehicle could be retrofitted to allow push-button start. Just put an appropriate switch somewhere on the dash and wire it in parallel with the key switch.

But both push-button and remote start are features that cost little to implement

"...Who really believes that you can get that updated key fob for "an extra dollar or two". People that have actually bought a spare fob might differ with you..."

Holy crap, I did not say anyone could buy one for an extra dollar or two. I made exactly the opposite point. I said Ford and all vehicle manufacturers charge a lot for upgrades.

I can't find the person who just posted "False" to my assertion that all key fogs costs the same to make. I think I said about the same. They don't cost the same. The difference between 2, 3 or 4 buttons is the case and the number of little microswitch covers. These are the switches you push. You are not pushing a switch just the piece of plastic which then pushed the switch. And why on God's green earth would anyone want to build several different insides when it cost virtually the same to build one which has the maximum number of switches. Just build the case differently and enable or disable some switches. Why use different pc boards and different electronics when one will work just as well. It would be smart to make the insides completely interchangeable. Put a 4 four button case on a 3 button fob and now it is a 4 button.

Building three different pc boards would reduce the volume by 4 and increase the cost of all.

I can't see why anyone is arguing about that.

Key fobs differ by more than the number of buttons

Have you driven a modern F150 with push button start?

I thought you were just posting to say maybe you wanted to upgrade your truck to push button start.

What year and model and trim do you have? Which FOB do you have? When do you think you might retrofit it to push button start?

Or are you shopping now? Are you set on an XL or XLT, or does the Lariat you learned about recently without lane keep assist or adaptive cruise (or BLIS or reverse sensing if you go 500A) appeal to you?

Let's get this going in a constructive and progressive direction. What's the plan?

I would not have bought an F150 if complete/true keyless was not available. I'm talking leaving the fob in my pocket and never touching it for anything.

I've had it since 2013 and even have it in our $20k import. The only thing that is ridiculous to me is that you have to get to high trim levels to get equipment that is standard in cheap cars.

True keyless operation is like a microwave oven. In 1984 I saw no use for one. Today, I would not have a kitchen without it.

Oh...and for the difference in manufacturing...it's pretty major. Two way vs. one way communication.

Regular remotes only transmit and regular vehicles only receive.

True keyless requires constant two way communication.
