thankyou for all the info you have given me!
next step is to stop in to my ford service and talk to them about it. Do you have a guess on what the average cost would be for them to replace the APIM?
Not sure, but about $2k if I had to guess. Even then, the truck would still be very out of date. It is cheaper to invest in the tools needed to fix it yourself and you can fully update it eventually once you get it out of the broken Sync software.
Ya that would be expensive to have replaced, bit maybe just needs a nudge!
fixing it myself would be a bit daunting and above my pay grade i think. Lol
i downloaded forscan couple weeks back, but i have only messed around with the enable disable simple items.I can see where u go into the module and can change values but instay away from that!
what tools are required and how detailed would it be for a DIY project

FORScan is an awesome tool, but it cannot be used to fix this particular issue. Since you already have a laptop, you would need a Mongoose cable ($575 new or about $400 if you can find a used one on ebay), a 32GB USB drive, and for the latter stages of the process, a 20amp 12v battery power supply ($100). This will allow you to use FDRS (Ford Diagnostic & Repair System) which is the same program Ford dealers use. FDRS access will cost you $120 for 2 days of access, and you will need two FDRS licenses to fully update the truck due to the process that updating the APIM initially entails.
Or, you can borrow one of my Mongoose cables for free. I have 4 of them that I loan out to forum members. Details are below:
Ok, thanks for all the info, my truck has another call back i have been reading aboit regarding the trailer tow module and the lights. Letters are supposed to be sent out March 17th. Because i cant download it OTA i will have to take it in and i can talk to them about not being able to download, and see what they say and what it will cost.
if i go the route of DIY, I live in canada and will contact one of members who live here also rent the Mongoose cable. After thay contact you again for step by step on how to complete the process?

I have to agree always better to DIY.
And after you helped me and I disconnected both batteries to reset everything. I started getting updates like crazy.
Twice they have told me that my car was fixed and twice I have insisted to see the FDRS update history and twice they have chosen not to show it to me and instead keep my car. OTA hasn’t worked since 8/23. I’ve had it in the shop three times and still not working. Supposedly, Ford engineering is involved. They’ve managed to push this issue out past my warranty so now my Extended Warranty people are involved. I’m supposed to pick it up on Monday and I hope it is resolved. However, I have a little faith.
Rugedraw, I would appreciate it if you could run my vin again and see what you can see.
Thanks in advance 1FTFW1EDXMFB36102

Unfortunately, Ford made some cybersecurity changes toward the end of last year. I am no longer able to see pending updates and vehicle history to see what you show pending or what the dealer has done (or tried to do), but there are certain things I can still see. Your truck is gettng OTA's sent. The problem is, it is stuck on a particular IPC update that fails to install every time they send it. This is creating a bottleneck effect for other updates to be sent, you it does seem like your truck is stuck in a loop trying to get that IPC update to install. The screenshot below shows your OTA dashboard. This OTA was sent to your truck 13 times within a 6 week time period and failed every time.
The same thing happened to my 2021 with an IPC update many years ago. It was stuck in a loop and would fail OTA constantly. The only way I was able to get it to go through was to manually push it with FDRS using the cable and not the USB method. It took 6 hours to flash, but with the tool dealers have, they should be able to do it in 4-5 hours. They would need to plug FDRS in and run the IPC update until it gets to the part where FDRS downloads the files for the USB. At that point, FDRS will show a pop-up message asking if the USB update installed and you can respond yes or no. If you click no, FDRS will ask you if you want to install the update using CAN instead of USB. They would need to select the CAN version and do it the long and painful way. That is what I would do if I were trying to fix this issue.
If they don't figure it, lmk if you want to borrow one of my Mongoose cables and I can help you fix it yourself.

Going back to February 12 they tried to do some updates, but they all failed with the battery condition failure.
Procedure unsuccessful. - BatteryCheck Poor battery condition Battery Voltage = 13.197v Minimum required = 10.0v Battery Estimated State of Charge = 9% Minimum required = 50%
