I may be able to help with any technical issues or questions. Feel free to PM me. I upgraded my Explorer from SYNC 2 to SYNC 3 about a year ago with the new hub for Apple CarPlay and this year I upgraded the antenna and antenna splitter to the version with GPS for SYNC 3.

There is a great spreadsheet on SYNC 3 part numbers here with a tab for display part numbers. The APIM part doesn't matter as long as it's SYNC 3, you will need to re-program it using FORScan. Keep in mind when purchasing that the non-navigation units cannot be upgraded to have navigation. The display needs to be the non-recessed version for the F-150.

Here are some relevant threads and sources you may find helpful.

Some good links but some erroneous info. The apims are different based on whether they are nav or not. Also, several vehicles use and SC (indented) screen but most use and SB screen.

Most importantly, the programming is very different between all Ford vehicles. The bits are in different places.

Yes, I mentioned that the non-nav units cannot be upgraded. The indented screen I referred to as "recessed". I am very familiar with Sync 3 programming and have upgraded a few vehicles.

For those of you upgrading from the base 4.2" sync to sync 3, what USB cable did you use from the new USB hub to the sync 3 APIM? Does the original 4.2" USB cable work just fine, or do I need to order a new one such as the FL2Z-14D202-A?

Also for re-pinning the APIM latch connector, did you re-use the original connector, or did you order a new one for the sync 3?

TexasFording -- I am very interested in this process, pricing, parts, etc. You seem to be providing that privately. Would love to hear from you. Cheers.

I have a 2013 F-150 Raptor. Can I upgrade to the Sync 3.0 and apple car play without loosing any features? I have steering wheel controls and my radio controls the HVAC and heated and cooled seats. What about navigation? Do I already have navigation. Do I need a new Navigation antenna? Will my factory Sirius antenna work?

Hi TexasFording, I’m interested as well. I have a 2015 Lariat crew with nav. Looking for Sync 3 with CarPlay/Android Auto. Thanks!
