update maps
I can relate to this thread. My ‘09 and my new-to-me ‘15 do not recognize my street address or even the name of my road. But delivery drivers who use Google Maps come right to my driveway as long as they have downloaded the directions where they still had cell service.
Wow. The reason I connected my explorer to my home wifi is because I thought the maps would update. I guess it's been a waste of time. Now I wish we hadn't bought it with the nav. I've always been a ford guy, but this lack of updates from ford is a rip off.
I traded in my 09 Cadillac SRX for my 16 F150.. and Cadillac is absolutely no better with map updates then Ford is... they were always 3 years off, and too often unavailable... I sometimes ended up getting them from Ebay instead of GM.
Worse news, is most care makers dump map updates between year 5 to 7 ... and yet, will not share the code, so people can update their own maps. and since I had several cars over 7 years old with built in navs, that was annoying!
Same with my 08 Honda Goldwing! The installed maps were 4 years old from the gitgo, and they did not have an update for it until 2011, after which the Honda Maps were always 3 year behind.... but.. it uses a generic mapbase file, so users are able to create their own map data file from Basemaps. I update them myself now, about every 2 years or so.
I just ordered the A9 Sync "2018-2019-version" Nav Card on FleaBay. Under US$45 delivered! A way betta' deal than the A9 one Ford offered in the letter I got Saturday~~ $149.00 (delivered).
Won't get for a few days as it comes from Calif. -->but not planning any trips that need the Nav program anyway.
On another note, recently worked w/ Disaster Recovery Services in NC during Hurricane Florence deploying generators to cellphone towers. The Sync maps as well as GoogleMaps & Waze weren't worth a crap during the storm or afterwards. Ended up using a Garmin GPS & Lat/Long coordinates for the sites along w/ Google Maps on cellphone to traverse the flooded and closed roads.
Whatta PITA!

Or will it? I am so confused... are the 16's the only ones that use the USB version, and the 15, 17 and 18's using SD Cards?
