Default Sync 3 NAV UPGRADE IS AVAILABLE

The Sync 3 Navigation upgrade is now available for the 2016 and 17. The part number is live, and the update is on USB from Ford.

Part Number is VJJ5Z19H449A SYNC 3 USB W/ License file NA1.16 1

I have verified this through my dealer's parts department and mine is on order.

You must have:
Vehicle VIN
SYNC ECU Serial Number (ESN) found at the bottom of the General Settings. It is an 8 alphanumeric number. If it looks like it starts with a W, that actually is V V.
Must have software version 2.0 or higher installed If not, then Sync 3 will require additional updates before the software can be installed.
Must also have Nav 1.14 or 1.15. Those are current versions on 2016-17.
Install is estimated at 70 minutes.

Price is $150 + tax. I'll post after mine arrives and is installed.

If you have problems ordering the update through your dealer, you might call my dealer.

Griffin Ford
511 W. Seventh St
Tifton, GA 31794

Ask for Trevor in Parts. He said he would order and ship to you. He will need your VIN and ESN numbers.

Attached is the Upgrade instructions from the Ford Dealer Support Site.

That is not how updates of map software work. They normally just go to the next number for updates with maps. My Garmin (before my stepson took it to Denmark with him) continually updated their versions by going from 1.1 to 1.2 to 1.21 to 1.3, etc. Unless there is a major update (example Sync 3 from 1.x to 2.3) with major changes in function or how it works, maps are just incremental. Same as old paper maps, just making changes and additions to roads.

I suppose if California finally falls into the Pacific then we will see a version 2 in a map upgrade.

I'm just waiting for waze for apple carplay. My part of town is growing so fast it would be almost useless to spend $150 on.

Im asking my salesman now if they will throw in a 1-time free update, since my truck is only 3 months old--I expect a NO, but doesn't hurt to ask!

Then I will stand corrected, but I was relatively certain that some of the 2017s early on had version 1.16 installed at delivery.

I found the old thread. Later in the post someone corrected the 1.16 to say they were mistaken and had 1.15 as well. My apologies and thank you for the correction.

Man I got so excited seeing Sync 3 update I completely missed the fact that this is for the Nav system. I was thinking the 3.0 update was available.
