It's not the cam phasers ticking? My 07 was louder than my 24v Cummins

He had the manifold gaskets replaced twice, IIRC, and both times, it would quiet the ticking way down. Unfortunately the repairs never lasted long. He finally gave up, and traded for a Silverado.

The HEMI in the Dodge is a good engine but can’t compete with the Coyote. I own a Coyote and driven numerous Rams at work and the Coyote will beat a HEMI in every way. GM’s 6.2 is a beast but you have to get a Denali to get it.

The only other V8 on the same level as the Coyote is Nissan’s 5.6 V8. Folks don’t realize it but Ford engines are engineering marvels that usually are found in expensive European or Japanese luxury/performance cars. Ford’s EB engines will stand toe to toe with BMW’s renowned turbo 6 cylinders. The Coyote has all the same specs as the Lexus 5.0 V8. Meanwhile GM and Fiat are still pushing the pushrod tech. This is why the “little” DOHC 32V, dual VCT and variable induction 5.0 outruns the bigger 16V 5.7 HEMIs all day everyday.

A best indeed. If I could have picked my truck up with the 6.2 under the hood, I would have. Probably not be as fast as my tuned eco but it certainly wouldn't be slow and it's a great engine. I'm predisposed towards them for obvious reasons though.

But none of the other domestic + Tundra engines, besides the various Ford offerings, are worth buying IMO.

And the best overall package is pretty clearly obvious right now. Not only does Ford have the best stable of engines, but you can get them in any trim level you want (generally/more so than other makers)

I traded off my 13 F150 5.0 on a new 16 Ram with the 5.7 Hemi. I must admit I liked the truck and had no problems in the time I owned it. But I did end up trading it off in 18 on a new Lariat with the 5.0 and came back to Ford. I have to admit the 5.0, for me, is an all around better engine than the hemi. And the famous hemi tick drove me nuts. I chalk it up to the tech in the engines. As mentioned on here the Ram is running some pretty old school tech with the push rod engine. Now I traded the 18 on a 20 with the 3.5. I get the truck tomorrow so I can't comment on that engine yet.

I'm old school too, and always lived by the adage "there is no replacement for displacement". But that just isn't true anymore and us old guys either have to change or be left in the dust. Literally. I hate to admit it but displacement is no longer king.

If you are looking strictly at interiors the new Rams do take the 15 to 20 F150's there. The new Ram interiors are seriously nice. The 21 F150 should close that gap though.

I use my truck as a truck and care about how it does truck duty, not that it has a V8, and the 3.5 eco is best for towing a heavy load in a 1/2 ton. The Ram interior is definitely nice and the hemi is a proven engine, but Ram has for years had issues with transmissions and interior build quality holding up over the long haul. I hope your Ram ownership experience is a good one.
He said he's old school and never wants a Turbo on his truck engines but damn every Semi Truck probably has Turbos!!

I’m trying to figure out how you can deem the 5.0 to small, but you were happy with the 5.4? You do realize it’s 4/10 of a liter right? So about 24 cubic inches??? I guess I could understand if you were coming from a 6.2 or some other big block but I think you are just trying to justify wanting a new ram?

I’ll give your new truck a nickname.... “RUSTY”.
