I went back and read prior replies (there's a lot I didn't ready them all). I saw one Ford Motor company account flagged as "official" commenting in this thread in June I think. Nothing specific to the problem in their comment. They are here.

Default Same issue - 2019 KR

About 2 weeks ago I started getting the annoying “Do you want to turn on automatic Updates” message every time I start the vehicle. It just happened to coincide with me starting to regularly use Apple CarPlay. Coincidence, who knows? There were problems before that though. The constant indexing of my iPod classic player, not being able to use commands on the iPod etc., which BTW my earlier trucks and versions of Sync did the same thing. Then probably a year ago it stopped responding to voice commands for navigation. Any fixes Ford recommended to me on any of these problems never worked. Me dealer tells me they’re not even familiar with this problem and I literally don’t have the strength to even try and explain it to them.

For now I’ll just deal with it and keep turning the messages off until Ford decides to put out a real fix or until I get rid of the truck as I don’t have the time or patience to try and fix this on my own right now. It chaps my a*** that we can have some very tech savvy folks on here willing to give up there time and offer help and solutions while Ford who is aware of this, sits on there hands and does nothing.

Just wanted to report back after I finally had time to run the fix properly. Worked and so far so good. Much thanks to @barrytone and others on this site and other sites for all the hard work. Saved me over $1000 and headaches at the dealer for a Ford caused problem.

Here is the process that worked for my MY19 that was fully out memory and no amount of resets were clearing up enough room for me to make the changes run through.

In this order....
1. Downloaded the necessary jailbreak files. Got those from Fmods, I needed the initial jailbreak files on 1 thumb drive and then the daemon installer on a second thumb drive.
2. After the daemon installer was successful, I then used the rwcleaner files on a thumb drive (also from FMods). That worked beautifully and quickly.....at this point I had a normal working 3.4.2251 build again. I could have just let it run like that until the logs filled up again, and then I could run the rwcleaner again I guess, but I opted to put on the latest software. So....
3. Downloaded the synupdater app from Cyanlabs. That process was super easy, just follow the directions carefully for the build you have.
4. Followed the instructions that Cyanlabs put together, and voila I have my brand new install with a (hopefully) better version of sync.

Ford is not getting my $1200 today....

Couple of notes I discovered. The whole process took me about 2 hours. Mostly due to a few interruptions and resets because the timing of the jailbreak initial process took a few attempts to get it to take. When the instructions tell you to wait a full minute (use a timer) before inserting the next daemon installer thumb drive, do that. Another pro tip....don't try and do this in 103 degree heat either....but I was successful and stoked to be through it. I am going to tell all my other friends with whacked out F150s to do this process too.

Thanks again to all those who offered advice and responses on here!

Kudos to all on this forum who have worked deligently to develop a work-around solution to this problem. Perhaps Ford will buy your services for spearheading a program to fix things at their end. Sure seems like they need you!

I performed the jailbreak, deamon install, and rwdata cleanup today with very good results. Auto update is off now and so far so good. Sync is still sluggish, so not out of the woods yet, but at least it seems to be functioning better, recognizing commands, and remembering settings. A huge thanks to barrytone for explaining both the problem and the solution, and thank you Arakpet for your feedback as well.

I'm still unclear about the Cyanlabs product. Can a 2020 vehicle running Sync 3.4 safely use the Syn 3 Updater from Cyanlabs to reload whatever the safe version of Sync 3.4.22xxx is? It seems to be geared to get earlier models to Sync 3.4, not update an existing 3.4. The MY20 Protection feature is a part I'm getting confused with too. Seems like an option to protect from loading anything on a MY20 vehicle.

Someone had mentioned that this should be a Recall, another posted stating it will probably be just a TSB.
BS on ford if it is just a TSB. It should be a recall, it is a safety issue, If you are driving and turn on the radio and it asks you to confirm settings, or if you want to play songs from a USB and have it randomly set. You need to reset your commands. doing this while driving is distracted driving. Like cell phone in some states this can get you fined $$ or if you are really unlucky in an accident.
I called ford and they will "assist me" in a resolution, I also stated the fact that this is distracted driving.

Is anyone in this thread a lawyer? How can we organize to threaten them with legal action? This is no different than a mechanic breaking something and refusing to fix it timely. And charging us for the fix for the APIM module essentially.

My next step is to advise the NHTSA (National Highway Transportation Safety Board) of the need to investigate the situation from a safety standpoint.

I have filed my complaint with the NHTSA pointing out malfunctioning Sync 3 systems. Backup camera screen view while driving in a forward direction and reocurring pop-up screens which require driver interaction are two primary concerns. Loss of handsfree phone and navigation functionality are secondary concerns. I believe an investigation by the NHTSA is justified.

Ford issued the software update that broke my Sync 3 system. Ford has stated that no software update is currently available to fix it. Replacing the APIM will fix the Sync 3 system. Vehicles under warranty are eligible for a no-charge APIM replacement. Vehicles out of warranty are subject to +$1000 Ford repair charge. I believe Ford is responsible to repair all Sync 3 systems that they broke. These repairs should be made regardless of warranty.

If so inclined, your complaint can be submitted to the NHTSA here: https://www.nhtsa.gov/report-a-safety-problem#index

Awesome. Glad it’s working so far. I also debated on just running the cleaner again if the memory filled up instead of messing with cyan labs. Ended up going to the latest sync version via cyan even with it being a my20. If my20 protection is left on, which it always should be, I believe it just skips the reformatting process to the apim. Apparently reformatting a my20+ apim bricks it. Update went fine in the end. Took like 30 min.
