Which engine
Currently have a 2011 5.0 f150 4x4 xlt which I love... However it seems that my truck was probably a late Friday afternoon production. After $1350 timing chain tensioner repair I'm strongly considering trading up to a certified or new f150. Seems that the 5L is tough to find unless you go with a higher end package. Anyone heard of issues with the 2.7? Also occasionally tow a 6500lbs trailer. Wondering if I should consider paying the extra cash for the 3.5 or 5.0. I did drive a 2.7 and was very impressed with power. Any input would be appreciated!
I bought a 2016 5.0 because I'm a big v8 guy, always have been. But I know that times are changing, and I'm starting to accept that. I've heard nothing but GREAT things about that little 2.7, and I mean nothing but great things. Great acceleration, great gas mileage, great towing capacity, etc... I did test drive the 3.5 EB and was very impressed, but I'm still a v8 guy. I didn't get to drive the 2.7, but I'll consider it if it's still around when it comes time for a new truck.
I Highly Reccommend driving All 3!
I had a 3.5 EB, in my 2012 xlt. I test drove all 3, 5.0V8, 2.7EB, and 3.5EB. I went with the 3.5EB again, and have no regrets.
If there would of been a 5.0V8 EB option, I would have it. But sounds like late 17 or 18 model yr for that engine...
Im not one to knock anyones engine choice or why, I just like what feels the quickest to me.... I dont care if its a V8, or V6. Just so it Goes...

I'm about to hit 62k on my 2015 2.7EB. Zero issues. I also tow a cabin cruiser that's 6000lbs dry (plus fuel, plus water, plus toys, plus trailer) with no issues. Fully loaded boat trailer is probably 7500 lbs.

I would have no concerns about any of the engines.
My only concern would be that you have to watch the payload with the 2.7. All of the 2.7's I looked at had a GVWR of 6500 and thus lower payload than any of the 5.0 or 3.5EB trucks I looked at...none of them had the HDPP (and I was only looking at 4x4 SCrews).

I've got the 5L in mine, why, I bought the truck to keep it for at lease 10 years, so to me, twin turbo engine are more expensive to repair if one of the turbo fails, I work with construction machinerie and when the turbo fail they often do lot of dommage. So it's why I choose the v8, power and long term longivity ( I hope)

Id say look at your life style and what you do. If all you are doing is towing a few toys, than the 2.7 should suffice. If your hauling alot of weight, than consider a bigger engine to handle the payload. I have the V8 because I flip homes, it suits my needs. When i want to go a little faster I'll hit the sport button for now till I get board of it and need some upgrades.
I had the 5.0 in my 2014 and now I have the 2.7 eco in my 2016, night and day difference in favor of the 2.7 in my opinion. There were times when the 5.0 seemed laggy and you really had to mash the gas pedal to get it to come alive, not so with the 2.7 this little engine always seems to be in it's power band and it's never laggy.
