Which engine
Currently have a 2011 5.0 f150 4x4 xlt which I love... However it seems that my truck was probably a late Friday afternoon production. After $1350 timing chain tensioner repair I'm strongly considering trading up to a certified or new f150. Seems that the 5L is tough to find unless you go with a higher end package. Anyone heard of issues with the 2.7? Also occasionally tow a 6500lbs trailer. Wondering if I should consider paying the extra cash for the 3.5 or 5.0. I did drive a 2.7 and was very impressed with power. Any input would be appreciated!
Like most have said....go drive them, not just for a little round the block drive but DRIVE them.
With that said I too have a 2011 5.0. V8 guy. No problems whatsoever with it and I have 140k on it. Handed it down to the kiddo. I went and drove new ones and ended up with an XLT eco 3.5. Love it. I do tow a horse trailer and in my 5.0 I got the 3.73 and it pulled just fine. I have not towed with my new one yet but I'm sure it will do the job with ease. I think they did a job job on making the eco sound a little "tougher" than I remember back in 2011 from the exhaust end.
My mistake was not getting a Lariat. Not sure why I always talk myself into "I don't need it". Already added tailgate assist and now looking for the Lariat instrument cluster to swap mine out.
Not a bad choice in the bunch...take your time. FYI...the 2017 eco 3.5 is getting a HP increase as well as some torque increase. Also the 10 speed.....which will be new...
I test drove the 2.7 and did like it (plenty of power), I may even buy the 3.5Eco if i get another full size truck in the future. Its sad but I just really wanted the V8 for the sound more than anything as i do not tow enough, though those turbos do sound nice.
This guys actually gives you the sound of all 3 if you were wondering.

Biggest issue for me was the cab and bed configuration. I needed the SCrew and 6.5ft bed, so my only choices were 5.0 and 3.5EB. I would have been happier with the 2.7EB as a daily driver but I'm glad I picked the 3.5EB when I tow my 6000lb camper.
