Current SYNC 3 and CarPlay/Android Auto Information
Patiently awaiting Ford details or more stock availability for the USB port/module... In the mean time, I was thinking about my workflow for where I'll put the phone now vs. when Apple Play works properly.
With the usb compartment, the sliding door closes all the way, it pinches the cable. I guess it doesn't crush the cable, but its tight enough where I can't move the phone freely. In my wife's explorer, there is a notch for the cable to sneak out of the compartment. Am I missing something here? Or is the thought that once car play is working, the phone will get plugged in and tucked in the compartment. I'm hoping I'm missing some kind of "ah ha!" moment as most cars I see now have a notch for cable management.

I'd appreciate any info on what has been done on the truck. Thanks for checking on exactly what version is in Sync 3

"From the SYNC 3 touchscreen, press the Settings icon in the Feature Bar, then press the General icon. On the next screen, select About SYNC (you may need to scroll to see it) and your SYNC 3 software version will appear at the top of the following screen."
Jim can find out what the truck shipped with.

Even without Car Play, yet, I tuck the phone in the cubbyhole and close the door.
I do have a phone mount coming off the dashboard if I am going to be using Waze or want a little more control over Pandora.

Our truck's build date is August of 2016 and the Synch 3 version is 2.0. Last night was my wife's turn to drive, so I set our destination in Google Maps, and learned how Android Auto works.
We have a long driveway which caused my phone to initially say something like: "Off Route. Drive to the start of the route to continue." Shortly after reaching our street the phone displayed a full screen message saying something like: "STOP. Come to a full stop to start navigation." It took a. couple of miles before we came to a full stop at which point the phone's screen turned off and the truck's screen showed Android Auto as a new Control on the bottom menu.
The map shown on the Productivity Screen was significantly different from Google Maps. The colors of the map portion were blue streets on a black background, with the blue line turning darker for the light traffic we encountered. There was a large green box with directions regarding the next turn. The overall presentation was to emphasize the directions over the map portion. The Navigation/Compass screen of the Information Display only showed the compass i.e. the directions were not displayed on the instrument panel. There were clear voice prompts for each turn.
Overall, I found it simpler and more focused on step by step guidance than Synch 3.

The colors will change depending on day/night mode . Bright screen white background for day. Dim screen black background for night.
