My sync works great for the most part but it's missing a major highway loop extension in my town that was finished over a year ago.
Same reason why Apple is using their own Maps and not Google. Also, many still don't have smart phones or they just love their factory Navigation. My wife hates navigation from the cellphone. She loves her factory Nav and that is why my X5 has nav. I think she is slowly learning to use Google Maps. She just hates holding the phone and trying to drive at the same time.

This thread is meant for useful information regarding SYNC 3 versions and how it affects CarPlay and Android Auto and what is required to use them and how. Please do not cloud this up with opinions on what is better or worse including factory nav. Its a pain the *** for members to read pages upon pages of useless information to find the one thing they may be looking for. Thanks.

for those with Ver 1, could we order HC3Z-19A387-B part and have it working? or do we need to wait for the ver 2 release and install it from the dealer?

thank you for clarifying.

You can order it and it will work but you will get a message on screen sayn something is wrong. But still functional.
But also they are on backorder everywhere. At least at my local dealers

So either of the two parts mentioned earlier will make an apple phone carplay compliant only if you have the SYNC version 2.0?

Yes, you need Sync 3, v2 . If you Have v1 or 1.1 you'll need to wait till ford pushes the update. Should be in November or December, just no word on what year

SYNC 3
Version 1.0 - Initial Release Version - Does not contain Android Auto/CarPlay
JM, I have a 2016 Platinum Sync 3 Version 1.0 and have used Carplay through my iPhone SE plugged into the left USB port (holy moly is it hard to get big hands in there). Not all of the apps are working, but I've used iHeart, Accuweather and Pandora successfully with zero modifications to either the software or the USB port.

I have found that the app needs to be active when I plug it into my truck, but those 3 "do" work at this time. The FordPass app comes up, but I don't have it activated.
