This is nuts. Trucks never ever stalled before Auto-stop-start ever. They were perfect until recently. Absolutely the fault of ***. I hate anything new, where's my horse?
My truck is going to the dealer again tomorrow. Had the problem again on Thursday evening. This time it was in a semi-busy in town intersection. Time for them to figure it out.
The dealer kept my truck for two days and could not find anything wrong. They also said there are no active TSB on it. I asked if they can contact Ford to inquire if they have seen the issue and he said not without data to provide to Ford. Seems friggin stupid that the service advisor cannot call and ask about the issue. I tried calling Ford yesterday but hung up as English was surely not that woman's first language and I couldn't understand her at all.
Had the same warning light come on today ,
but i wasn't driving . Just fill up with gas. Starting the truck like i alway do hit the auto stop button , went to put into drive truck stall. Try it again same thing happen. Third tome it was fine.
SO let me get this right - as I'm not sure I'm reading it all.
1) OP had disabled start stop via forscan. WHich turns off the BMS as far as I know - and without the BMS input the car stays out of start stop mode.
2) few cold days - car sat without running for a period - potential battery was weakened.
3) car started fine however
4)was at low speed approaching a stop, RPM's wavered and eventually dropped to 0. Screen popped up.
5) key start worked fine
6) low speed incident repeated - same screen.
Dealer can't replicate. One other poster had similar issues - happened to have a scanner hooked up got a EVAP purge code while this happened on his car.
The other dealer checking the car out - decided to reprogram the PCM. It doesn't say exactly that it was a new software update but reading between the lines I believe it is.
All are 2018 model exhibiting this issue. are all of them 4x4 models too - probably doesn't matter. One is a ecoboost and one was a 5.0?
That fact that is easily restarts makes me wonder if you tripped up some edge case that confuses the software - or if the start stop on the 2018 is active when it wasn't intended to be. The recent cold start leads me to think this. Mine (2017 model) won't activate until the coolant temp is fully up, so a few minutes in the winter - about 1 minute in the summer. And it doesn't activate if the AC or Heat demand is still high.
Sounds like in this case it might be activating too early.
I have a 2018 F150 XL 2.7l 4x4 with about 2400 miles. Today, I was driving and lost all engine power. An error message popped up on the instru
ment cluster saying "Auto StartStop Shift to P then restart". The truck was cold and had been sitting for 2 days. It's been about 20 degrees during the day and 0 at night. I had started the truck, let it warm for a minute then drove a mile and parked. Fifteen minutes later I started it and pulled out of a parking spot, slowed at the end of the lot and was pulling onto the road when it died and I got that message. I took a picture then put it in park and it restarted fine. I drove the mile home with no issue.
I have not gone to the dealer yet as I suspect they will just tell me to wait until it happens again. Any thoughts on what the problem may be?
Well, my 2018 did this a few weeks ago for the second time since it was new. Same spot, about 1 mile from the house, and it was about 45 deg that morning, same as back in December. I was coasting to a downhill stop at a traffic light soon after I started the vehicle. This time, however, the Auto StartStop was turned off. An interesting thing showed up on my phone's FordPass a few seconds after the restart was required. It mentioned something about a failure in the Passenger Restraint System. I wonder if this could be a clue to the source of the issue, or if it's simply a byproduct from the StartStop error?
sounds like some random codes thrown out due to modules faulting. Often happens when they are undervolted. IE they like to run at 10Vdc but are fed 9Vdc - which can lead to memory issues and false warnings.
It's why one of the most common electrical diagnostics is to first check the battery.
