Here's where things get...interesting. Ford makes a ton of variations of grills, and even several variations of the same grill.

Here are the combinations I have seen, there maybe more:
3 bar with hole and mount points
3 bar no hole but mount points
5 bar hole and mount points
5 bar no hole and no mount points

And there are aftermarket grills that are 3 bar with a camera hole, but no mounting points.

So, to answer your question, download a copy of the install procedure that was posted earlier, and pull your grill. Compare what you have to the options listed and you can decide.

The instructions above are good for a grill if you have the factory camera hole. Those were done with a grill with factory camera hole but no mounting points. I believe a procedure is being worked on for grills that have the mounting points but no camera hole. Camera-source.com can verify.

Default Procedure

I am getting swamped with emails and PMs about this. Here's my personal opinion:

1) Yes, there are other ways of installing it. I have very large hands (not bragging) and so it was easier for me to remove the door panel and speaker in order to have easier access.

2) Yes, you can skip some steps (remove door panel) and still accomplish the same.

3) I decided to put TONS of pictures to make it as easy as possible to install this system hence the length of the document.

4) You can use other tools (i.e. fish tape), I just happened to have a retractable flexible tool that worked perfectly and was perfect for the job at hand.

5) The procedure was done for pedestal mirrors ("regular" non tow mirrors) because that is what was available. Tow mirrors will have different mounting points for its cameras.

Having said that, please post your questions here and I'll answer as best possible. Post them here please for the benefit of the group and whoever considers going this route.

Yep, I will. I wanted to get my replacement harness in (messed one up trying to shorten it) before I did the video. I hope to run the replacement over the weekend and then I'll do the video for all y'all.

This is true. I had a 3 bar chrome Lariat grill without camera hole I put on months ago to replace the 5 bar XLT. I just replaced it with a chrome Lariat Sport with camera hole for this kit. I noticed on the one removed that it has the mount points on the back and a cutout under the badge for the camera hole. I guess you would still have to dremel off the small center rib on the inner grill for the camera.

TexasFording,

Thanks for the great info on this thread! I've got a couple of random questions:

If I have my turn signal on at a stop light, is the front or side camera displayed? Does it depend on if I had my turn signal on prior to slowing below 7mph?

Will the side cameras activate if I only use the quick 3 blink turn signal?

Are you able to adjust the side cameras after the install w/o taking the mirror apart again?

How many hours do you think it would take a professional to install?

Lastly, I'm a little confused about the grill variations comments. I just picked up a Platinum grill with the camera hole. Do I need to be checking if it has mounts or is a grill with a camera hole pretty much guaranteed to be compatible?

Thanks again!

Sides (depending on what blinker you're using)

you can activate manually

Its better if you align them before you snap them in, however, if you install them the way I did, you can pop the cover off (provided you left enough slackin the camera harness) and readjust

Took me 30 mins to do the front and 8 for the sides (not counting hours and hours of documentation and photography)

blame Ford. No guarantees. Like I said, you can have a grill with the hole and no mounting posts in the same way you can have a grill with NO hole and mounting posts. Best option is to have both. You can have the hole and its a good compromise in which case you jbweld the camera/bracket assembly

I picked up my truck from the dealer today (long story) and saw that the Lariat SE's have that weird 5 bar grill (with the red inserts) and have the hole and mounting spots for the camera.

There are just too many combinations. They certainly dont like making things easy. Who knows how the 17's (and later on, the redesigned '18s) will come.

More to come on the non-camera ready 3 bar grille. Modified mine last night and installed the Camera-source front camera without having to buy a new grille. Will finish up later this week. Great quality of the products and as TexasFording said, get customer service and support. These people are not trying to take advantage of you and they have quality products. This combination is hard to find at times.

I'm a fan.
