2017 Sync 3 update
It is extremely frustrating to keep seeing this question come up about the Apple CarPlay/Android Auto update and having people throw out wild accusations that Ford isn't keeping their promises. They have said, for almost a year now, that the update would be coming for 2016 models later in 2016.
Here is an article from January of this year, nearly 8 months ago, stating exactly that:
https://media.ford.com/content/fordm...roid-auto.html
From the article:
"In North America, Ford is making Apple CarPlay and Android Auto available on all 2017 vehicles equipped with SYNC 3, starting with the all-new Ford Escape. Owners of 2016 vehicles equipped with SYNC 3 will have an opportunity to upgrade later in the year."
LATER IN THE YEAR
Yes, that is a pretty large area, as it means just about July to December, but in no way does it paint that Ford isn't keeping their promises, and also doesn't outline that they likely have reasons for not releasing it yet as upgrading a system is not the same as doing a full package install at the factory. You have to write the update to not delete user preferences, or people get mad. You have to make sure you can unpack the files within the storage limitations of the system, while having the old version system files still present, or it fails. Issues you don't deal with when doing a first install at the factory.
It will be released, don't blame Ford because you didn't do your research before dropping $40k+ on a vehicle if your main concern is CarPlay.
Sorry to be harsh, but this accusation against Ford, who is far from perfect, comes up almost daily and in this case at least is not deserved.

Take Applink, that was supposed to be the way forward with connecting FMT to applications on the phones. Ford changed plans midstream dropped FMT like a hot potato and moved on to the next shinny thing QNX.
Today there are "aftermarket" hacks to upgrade FMT to Sync3. If the aftermarket has a solution, Ford could've offered one too. That's not to say Ford isn't going to deliver in the Sync3 space, but they need to deliver and time will tell.
The FTM debacle is still close in the rear view mirror.

While what your saying isn't incorrect, I'm still going to call bulls*it. Ford's track record is a mess in this space, there's a valid reason to be concerned about Ford and future support on an infotainment platform. Ford in my opinion kicked FMT users to the curb and abandoned them. If they offered an upgrade path, I wouldn't feel this way. They could've but they chose not too.

Hold your horses. Apple and Google announced CarPlay and Android Auto after Ford had Applink. People, like those in this thread, clamored for it. Technology changes. What you are saying is akin to being upset because you're Pentium 100 had a dial up modem but now everything is broadband.

PC technology half-life is somewhere around 6 months last I looked, does this mean they can only work on updates until new tech arrives, then ditch it, to only update the newest hardware? Ask Lenovo (Motorola) how well that's working out for them in their mobile phone division on not providing updates.

LOL 20 yrs of technology differences...yeah same thing.

Uh Motorola isn't the only tech company that does that. In fact, I can't think of one that doesn't. Anyway, go ahead and bash a car company because they aren't doing everything you think they should be doing around updates. I am sure that 10 year-old Chevy with gen 1 On-Star is getting weekly updates.
I'm not bent or sore about it. I just feel Ford did a poor job of providing an upgrade path when they could have, especially for BRAND NEW VEHICLES!
There are brand new, never been titled 2015 F150s on lots today that are outdated. Here's two VINs you can google and buy right now 1FTEW1EG4FFB94277 & 1FTEW1EG3FFC30444. That's a far cry from 10 year old hardware. Searching AutoTrader for 2015, New, F150 I got 3,995 results.

If I would have had this attitude when I got my first car I would have written a letter to Ford (with self stamped envelope for them to send me the update) asking why I got an 8 Track player when clearly the industry was going cassette. The nerve...

Anyway, nothing you have said changes anything. Eventually MFT had to go, and they released an update for it as recently as about six months or so ago when they improved performance/stability and adding Apple Hands Free. Seems like pretty decent support to me for a platform that, again, has essentially equal features to Sync 3 (just slower, the screen difference, internal storage for maps instead of SD, and the upgrades over wifi).
Anyway, please, stop blaming companies that make it very clear what their plans are for your lack of research. If someone buys a 2015 F-150 and doesn't research the difference between MFT and Sync 3, then that is their choice, not Ford's.
