If you buy a Hyundai over a truck because you can't use your smartphone on the in dash screen....well....bye.

Default SD card?

Does sync 3 use a NAV SD card or is it internal?

I believe it is internal, but updates are via SD-card. But I could be wrong.

Storage is internal, no SD card slot on the system. The manual talks about USB updates. So I would suspect that the maps will be done this way.

C'mon now, making wild assumptions on what I said. I never said I was buying a Hyundai or even a car. I said I wouldn't be brand loyal, if they can't follow through on promises. I'd like to assume you're brighter than that.

Hyundai and Kia can provide the software within 3 months for vehicles almost 3 years old with multiple iterations, but Ford can't do it in 8 months for theirs running the same OS?

If you care about updates from your OEM, this matters.

It is extremely frustrating to keep seeing this question come up about the Apple CarPlay/Android Auto update and having people throw out wild accusations that Ford isn't keeping their promises. They have said, for almost a year now, that the update would be coming for 2016 models later in 2016.

Here is an article from January of this year, nearly 8 months ago, stating exactly that:

https://media.ford.com/content/fordm...roid-auto.html

From the article:
"In North America, Ford is making Apple CarPlay and Android Auto available on all 2017 vehicles equipped with SYNC 3, starting with the all-new Ford Escape. Owners of 2016 vehicles equipped with SYNC 3 will have an opportunity to upgrade later in the year."

LATER IN THE YEAR

Yes, that is a pretty large area, as it means just about July to December, but in no way does it paint that Ford isn't keeping their promises, and also doesn't outline that they likely have reasons for not releasing it yet as upgrading a system is not the same as doing a full package install at the factory. You have to write the update to not delete user preferences, or people get mad. You have to make sure you can unpack the files within the storage limitations of the system, while having the old version system files still present, or it fails. Issues you don't deal with when doing a first install at the factory.

It will be released, don't blame Ford because you didn't do your research before dropping $40k+ on a vehicle if your main concern is CarPlay.

Sorry to be harsh, but this accusation against Ford, who is far from perfect, comes up almost daily and in this case at least is not deserved.

Yes, I can. I will blame them, if they do not deliver. I'm not a blind fanboy who will sit satisfied solely because I already made my purchase. I know they have a time-frame. I also know they've been essentially radio-silent on updating that information, since. That is weak Customer Service in my opinion, maybe not yours.

The article I posted was a reference point to other OEMs who have already accomplished a similar task in a 1/3rd of the time. How can you explain Hyundai and Kia delivered a software update on a short time frame and Ford cannot? Feel free to elaborate on that as well, considering the very similar variables as you laid out above.

I decided on searching for a 302a without the navigation option because of my research on the promise on delivery of a Sync software update. It's a gamble I can live with, but that doesn't mean I have to be complacent.

I will compare and pressure Ford, as a stock owner, as much as I see fit.

The only thing that irks me is when I ordered my truck, NOTHING indicated that the CarPlay upgrade wouldn't be free. Shortly before I take delivery the owner.ford.com site is updated reflecting a hardware upgrade having to be purchased.

That is bait and switch.
